How could GM keep this car under wraps? No spy shots? This car had to be driving around somewhere. Kudo's for GM for doing so well at actually surprising us with such a wonderful looking car!
You dress it up to look like another car.

It would be very cool indeed. I was stoked to see it originally and immensely disappointed that it was just one guy's styling exercise. Boo hoo. It would have to be RWD for me to consider it, but if it were, it would definitely be on my short list for a daily driver.
My idea of "fun" includes track days and the drag strip and the fact that the Solstice is a convertible is throwing a wrench in that, because there's no roll bar available for it. Not exactly a fun day at the strip to line up for the first run and get kicked out when I reach the timing booth because I ran too fast to be out there without a roll bar.
You want a Solstice for drag racing?? I love my wifes GXP but one thing a Solstice is not and that is Drag car, unless you have never owned a semi quick car before, a mid/high 13 - low 14 second run on the drag strip is
I know there are some heavily modded Solstices running whatever out there, that's cool, but for the other 99% of them, stay home and don't clog the staging lanes for the real drag cars.
Oh, I forgot the main reason I was posting. I love the coupe, the look absolutely crushes the Ugly Z3 or 4 coupe thing...

It's not easy living 30 minutes from some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, but someone has to.

My Solstice is faster than 75% of the cars at any of the local Drag Strip. I beat my friends Mustang GT as well. I see nothing wrong with racing my Solstice there when I can beat what's considered a 'drag car.'

How quick is it?

I agree, 13-14 second runs are ho-hum.
Like I said, I have an issue because I'm not interested in clocking times above the roll bar cutoff.
And the roll bar is non-negotiable for any track days I've seen organized, regardless of speed.
The roof doesn't fit in the trunk? That doesn't make any sense..
JMO
1 I don't like the looks of it. looks too much like a Porsche from the Risky Business days. and 2 it makes perfect sense that the roof doesnt fit. look how they messed up the current trunk space!!

I like the looks a lot....from an angle off the rear quarter panel I see remnants of an ol' Aston Martin DB5 (the original Bond car) especially in silver ....of course gone modern ...if only they would have split the top into two pieces with some way of stacking them in the trunk area....it would then be the complete package....maybe they should have put in a concealed ejecting roof hatch that is triggered by a red button hidden under a hinged cap on the gear shift knob!!! And then maybe machine guns, oil slick, rotating rear license plate...disappearing front license plate frame.....

I totally agree - this car is HOT! If I move back to the East Coast, I'd seriously consider picking one up for the cold season. For now though, I'm still lovin' my '06 vert here in the land of sun.
I gotta say I'm just happy they decided to drop the little Bung-Hole tailpipe combo.
But, this thing is less practical than the original. Besides the obvious issues already discussed about not being able to remove the hard top on your way home from work (which matters to some but not others), what about:
- Who cares that you have access from inside the car to the back area? You are going to have to be a contortionist to make it useful.
- That back window is SMALL, and it's way in from the sides. You are going to have to be tall with long arms to easily put anything back there. Tall or short, I'd say you will probably end up putting one hand on the car fender while you load whatever into the back. I don't like that idea.
- The rear space may be slightly larger, but most of that added space is open, not covered. From the looks of the photo's, I think grocery bags and 24 packs of beer aren't gonna go in back very well at all.
- Those private storage spaces "under cover" look like a royal pain to get to because they are basically tucked under the body panels on the sides. If there is also one along the back, it looks like it will be a royal pain too, maybe more so.
My take is that racing people will love this thing, as will Targa and Coupe people. But I'd be willing to guess that the number of those people is quite small compared to convertible lovers. GM knows this, and that's why they went with the most cost effective way of producing it. I think it's very cool they made it, and I hate to say it, but on this one I think Edmonds might be right. I don't see it flying off the show room floors. It will at first for those few who love the idea, but I see sales dying fast. Again, that's just my 2 cents.
