Think that is the function of the Soft Top option. The Soft Top does store in the back. Caught away from home, install the Soft Top.
Long extended road trips would be a horse of a different color. But could see the Soft Top doing the job. Not that much different thatn having a Convertible Top above you now.
From the way the releases sound, they may have raised the floor in the back to match the height of the "Temple". Thus creating storage compartments around the base of the "Temple", where open space is now. Soft Top stores in one of those areas.
Yes if the weather changes you can put the soft top up but that's assuming you went out with it. What happens when you leave with the hard top on and the day turns out nice to where you would want to drive top down? You don't have the options that you do with the vert. I prefer to have that option. It may or may not do well in the N/E since our weather changes drastically. IMHO.

I see the critics now saying they fault this one because you cant store the targas in the back......so you need the optional soft top......here we go again!!!...
OR.......
It takes TWO hefty MEN to remove and 10 minutes!
I can hear them now!

Weight distribution is now exactly 50/50 a la BMW.
I didn't think they could improve on the concept coupe, but this car actually looks better and the targa is a big improvement.
This car will sell very well world wide - there is nothing else like it on the market and it hits all the requirements for a sports coupe. I can hardly wait to read Consumer Reports criticisms!
Everyone here is thinking about this car as a convertible and not a coupe. I think this cars primary objective is to be a coupe and for most people who buy it they will just leave the top up. This will be great for people who wanted the solstice but didn't want a convertible. It also means the solstice could be significantly more popular however once I get my convertible again I don't care if everyone has the coupe, because I got humps!
Looks like a miniature Crossfire to me. I'm keeping my ragtop.

I could care less if the roof doesn't stow. I'll just get the soft top option for times I know I might want to take the roof off. When I go racing I'll just throw the panel back in place.

just wish the targa was stowable in the back.....the soft cover top is mandatory on road trips now..but wondering about the wind noise difference between the two......beleive not being able to store the hard targa in the back is a drawback......Im sure the critics will pick up on this one fast.....
I'd say 70~80% of the wind noise in a Solstice comes from the rear section where the buttresses are since they have open spaces that lead to the outside. You also have the wind swirling around behind the flat top area as well. With the cloth roof panel in place it's completely sealed all around it looks like which would greatly decrease wind noise over the current roof and then the sloping back shape along with the smaller area will help as well.

Now that the press release is out, I can speak a bit.
I'm glad the B pillar is black. Last I saw it wasn't... and I was worried about that as I didn't like the look.
As for comments about the trunk. Small Dealer hit on the head from everything I know. The floor was raised up to the top of the tank... just looks like more room still because of the new fastback design. Nothing else in the car has changed aside from the coupe specific pieces.
Glad they did this... but so glad I have the convertible GXP.
