The idiocy has begun:

From the idiots at Edmunds:

Quote:
All of this should be good news to drivers in the SCCA's Showroom Stock B racing class. Up until now, drivers who wanted to pilot a Solstice had to order a special package and then add a hardtop among other things. Starting early next year, they can be halfway there right out of the showroom.

What's Edmunds' take?
Don't expect to see many of these on the road. The racetrack might be another story. — Ed Hellwig, Lead Senior Editor, Inside Line

Wow. I like the Targa. It evokes the old GT coupes, the Jaguar E-Types or even the original Datsun 240Z. In fact, the car's side view is a dead ringer for the TVR Sagaris:

versus:

versus (Jaguar):

Without the side vents and flares.

I am totally going to get one. I find myself using the convertible top more than top down. I love having the top down, but I need a trunk (since my car IS a DAILY driver).

The T-Top idea suits my purposes perfectly. Top down for special occasions. But top up for normal driving. Plus, I don't have to worry about the convertible top squeeking or the fabric fading.

Don't get me wrong, I love my convertible, it is the second Solstice I have and I fell in love with the convertible. But now having driven the Solstice convertible for 1.5 years, I realize I need a different application.

Somehow I have a feeling some vendor will offer the removable roof panel in a tinted glass format, or plexiglass version. I'm sure someone is (working for GM) working on it as we type. Then GM will offer it as part of a bundle option.
I like it, though I agree the straight on rear view isn't real flattering. Still for folks who need the security of a hardtop, or additional room, this is a great classic design. Buying a Camaro just got tougher, are dealers even taking pre-orders?

No, the Elise's hard-top DOESN'T fit in the trunk. The Elise trunk isn't much bigger than the Solstice's trunk. And the reason that no-one picks on the Elise is that it's "a pure sport-scar". Ie the snobs excuse the Elise because it's a Lotus. It's not supposed to be practical. The poor Solstice gets slagged, even though it's supposed to be a budget sports car, because it's not a "super-car". It's just a Pontiac.

Well...260hp. Would it be safe to say there is no 300hp GM Performance upgrade? If so, that sucks!

My hand is hovering over my phone poised to make a call to my dealer.

Two questions for anyone who may know or suspect:

1. Will the chrome wheels be the only wheel choice? I'm not a fan of chrome.

2. Any possibilitie of a true coupe coming soon? I like the rigidity of a fixed roof.

So it's not two-piece. Didn't really think they would unless they were using a "T" down the middle. But as long as teh optional softtop leaks no more than regular convertible top it should work. Leave the hard shell in place when you know you won't remove it, use teh softone when you think you might open up. Could be another product for smoothline - a two-piece or fold in teh middle fiberglass roof section(with plexi-panel moonroof windows)

#2 No .... The reason behind the removable panel and NOT the Full hardtop Coupe was due to totally having to redesign the car IIRC to meet certain standards.

Don't bother calling your dealer yet ..... won't be available until January 2009
