On second thought, if before I bought my Sol I had seen a step-by-step on how to put the top up I would have thought it would take forever. But now that it is part of my routine, it seems to take no time at all. So I guess it will be the same with the soft top.
Only thing is it seems like you almost need some kind of work surface to put it together. Assuming you're out on the road somewhere, is it something you can just lay out on the hood and slap together?

I wouldn't lay it on the hood, too rough. A flat grassy area would work or add a piece of a blanket to the bag and use the ground.
In a rush we could probably stick the pins in the holes and put it on without the cross pieces. Will have to get the wife help me try that if SolNut doesn't beat me to it.

I have had my soft top for several months but just now assembled it for installation. It was a ROYAL pain. It is obvious how it goes together but I tried to assemble it myself for probably 20 minutes and gave up. When my husband came home we both struggled with it. It was difficult getting the sides spread far enough apart to get the bows in. My husband banged on it with his fists to the point that they were sore. I am not impressed with it. I love the car and it is an eye catcher but the hard top not fitting into the car when off is a BIG TIME inconvenience. Any advice appreciated!
Another pointer when installing the soft top on the car, latch the back first.

Unfortunatley, it is the ONLY alternative. What intiallially helped me was spreading the top out in the sun, that helps the canvas warm up and stretch a little. I also wiped silicon on the parts that slide into each other. Like most things in life, the more often you do it, the easier it gets.
2009 Black GXP Auto - When I made deal in September I had ordered soft top, now "back ordered". Reading through the posts it seems some have been able to get. Does anyone have latest update if and how I can get one ?
Someone in one of the other threads about the soft top posted a great idea, get a painter's drop cloth to lay down on the ground to place the top on and kneel on while you work the top.
The hardest part putting it together is getting the front hard plastic lip to line up with the front header, once it's lined up it goes together quickly. If it's not in that slot it won't go together.
If I was looking for a top now I would contact Tom at Crate Engine Depot, he mostly had the best info about getting one.

I ordered one from Tom at crate engine depot after returning a bad top to a dealer in Minnesota. Tom apparently has a deal worked out with the manufacturer to make a limited production run last week. He was expecting to be able to ship this week or next.

I just picked mine up from Tom at Crate Engine Depot this morning, along with the bag for the hard top. Not too far of a drive, so I just drove there to get them. If anyone else is looking, give him a call. He pulled the top out and we checked it over, and it was perfect. He said they switched the packaging, so that helps with the edges.

Tom left a message on my phone Tuesday morning saying he had the tops and was shipping mine. Got an e-mail late yestersay with the tracking number. A quick check on UPS.com and the top is in a truck headed this way. Hope to have it by the weekend ! Super customer service so far from Crate Engine Depot !
