New owner of Coupe #0199

Wanted to introduce myself to the board, I just bought my Deep GXP Coupe #199, drove 22 hours round trip to pick it up from 2 states away. But it was well worth the trip. I have been searching for the last month or longer for a Deep GXP Coupe in my local area of Tidewater VA, while on vacation in central FL and then again when I got back home. Local dealers only ordered NA coupes or silver or black. Then started expanding my search out using larger city zip codes on the Pontiac website. Found 3 Deep GXP Coupes and a few Wicked, one only an hour or so away. The closet dealer that had a Deep was in PA said he rather sit on it at MSRP than take credit union pricing. The closest GXP coupe was Wicked, the dealer said the exact same thing. So I called the next closest dealer with a Deep Coupe, they were in middle of KY just south of Cinnicnati. I was expecting to hear the same story about "THESE ARE HOT CARS, NOBODY IS GOING TO LET THEM GO FOR UNDER MSRP, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH..." I called and spoke to a saleswoman in training, she realized that she needed help and turned me over to a seasoned saleman. I explained that this would a simple deal, I had my money in hand and wanted to buy their coupe at Credit Union pricing. But I lived 670 miles away, but was willing to drive out there to pick up the car with my trailer and bring it home. He said he would ask, but there was a guy coming in that evening to look at the car, he had been waiting on it to arrive at the dealership and that day was his first chance to look at it. I said that was fine, if the other guy got the car then it's just wasn't meant to happen for me.

So about 4 long hours later my phone rang, the salesman said he had good news, they would take CU pricing and the guy's wife said NO! to him getting the car. So a few fax later I had a buyer order, checks in hand and left at 2:30 AM Thursday morning, got to Florance KY at 12:30, signed all the paperwork, loaded the car in the trailer, back on the road got home at 12:30 Friday morning.

I also had the dealership order me the soft top, Turbo Upgrade Kit and splash guards for the car, they will be shipping them to me once they get them in.

On that note, did not realize how much heavier the top would be compared to either of my Vette tops. I took it out so I could get into the car in the trailer this morning. Let's just say it was interesting to watch me crawl out the window "Dukes of Hazard" style at the dealership.

The crazy part of my story this is the 3rd time I've made a trip to that part of the country in or around Cincinnati, 1st trip was for a 1990 RX7 TII with a blown engine ( I know everyone act shocked, a RX7 with a blown rotary) for my LT1-6spd swap out of a totaled 1995 Formula, then found my 2007 Corvette at a dealer ship in Cincinnati and now the GXP 15 minutes south of the river.

A little background, I've got a 1999 Formula, 402 LS2, F1C, ETP heads, 12 bolt rear, a few other little bolt ons, made 891rwhp, the 07 A6 Vette, 2005.5 TDI Jetta and 2008 GTI both are about to be trader for my wife's new Touareg 2 V6 TDI and what got the coupe home was my 2004 Ram 3500 and 24ft enclosed trailer.

I've had a few other interesting cars in the past like the RX7 V8 hybrid, 1990 C4 Vette, 88 Fiero Formula (wishing I had kept that car now).

Back to the Coupe, it's got polished wheels and Auto, not really loaded up but enough that it will be a fun car and should not be seeing any others like on the road around here.

If anyone is looking for black GXP coupe I know where one is going to show up and a GREAT salesman and sales manager. I told them that I had been lurking on here and there was a dealer in Denver asking 5K over MSRP, plus what I had dealth with trying to find one closer, they both laughed, said it's just a car, they would deal on the next one too. It's better to sell it now than hope for a big return later.

Like to say thanks to SD for all of his post, I learned a lot from reading his post about buying the Coupe.

Thanks for the warm welcome

It was a huge hit at our local car hangout/show yesterday. It had kids to people on canes looking at it. That was really the first time I drove it and still trying to get the mirrors adjusted just right. Merging on to the interstate has a high pucker factor still.

Here she is, Friday I painted the calibers and rotors, but before I "resized" the antenna, not it's about 3 inch long, comes just below the top of the side window.

Wow! that is my favorite picture of a Solstice coupe yet. That color looks fantastic. It is just screaming out for a white Heritage stripe. Gorgeous.

Three thumbs up.

(Gizmo would give 7)

More pictures of your car would be greatly appreciated.

Is that gorgeous new deep color a metallic? I would love to see it in person. I'm a red guy, but I will love seeing that color on the road. Too bad I won't be seeing many of them.

Hell, I barely see any Solstii as it is! I realize many people love the exclusivity but I would like to see one more than once a month or so.

I guess if I bought one, then I would.

No, I believe the new Deep is not a metallic, but seeing the coupe in it almost made my girlfriend drop her coffee (and she was a big fan of the old darker metallic deep).

I think this color looks much better on the coupe than the vert.

It is a stunning photograph. The color is good, but I wonder if for some reason it just looks even better owing to such a nice photograph. That blue contrasts with the tones of everything else in the photo.

That is half my motivation for asking for more pictures. I want to know if that color holds up that beautifully with different backrounds and angles or if it is something specific to that picture.

All that said, I love that blue color and I am a die-hard red lover. That blue reminds me almost of the "Blurple" on Honda Goldwing motorcycles. Not as purple, of course.

I thought the deep red looked wonderful on the coupes but that blue is nothing short of stellar!:wi lly:

YOU, sir, are MY kind of guy! I'm also a big F-body guy (all my own work, heads, cam, rearends, trannys, etc). I'm also the kind of psycho that will drive across country to get THE car I want. I *LOVED* reading your story. Very cool. And yes, the picture of your car is stunning. My new background....You do realise that GM will build many times more ZR1 Vettes every year than the total run of Solstice Coupes....A very rare car, you have there....

Maybe you'll get a kick out of one of MY car stories. When they first were shown to the public (the drawings!), I fell in love with the Viper GTS Coupe. 1996, Blue with White stripes. On a trip to Vegas, I rented one as a treat, and that was it. I drove it non stop for the 24 hours I had it. I lost my mind. I HAD to have one. Started looking for one I could afford (!), and could not find one. Many months later, I am sitting in a waiting room, waiting to be checked into a hospital for surgery. I see a newspaper sitting there (just the car classifieds!). Holy cow, there is a GTS Viper listed! As they are prepping me for surgery, I am telling my wife to keep calling the Viper people! When I was in the recovery room afterward, I was unable to talk, but I WAS able to mumble "Viper" to my wife, and she told me, "They still have it!". They are still giving me oxygen to bring me around, and my wife is telling me all the details on the car! I was not supposed to be out of the bed, but I flew to where the car was, bought it, and drove that baby home! 12 years later, I still have it!

Beautiful blue, it reminds me a lot of the 77 Corvette blue I had. I have to wonder what a silver mettallic heritage style stripe might look like on it.
I have to admit, seeing GXPs priced around the same price as the Camaro SS, Mustang GTs, and Challengers is kind of surprising.
Could you explain what Credit Union pricing is?
