   Thinking about GXP Coupe

First off, hi guys

I'm new to the forum. I'm currently considering the GXP Coupe when it comes out. Why? Because I really like the looks of the car and due to the increasing gas prices. I'm currently driving an 06 GTO, which I really like, but I'm only making about 14 mpg with my heavy foot (I like to drive fast).

There's my problem. I like to go fast. I'm not sure if the GXP will give me the performance I looking for. My stock GTO ran 13.3 @ 105 mph at the track. With a few bolt ons (full exhaust, intake, tune) its a high 12 sec car. I like being able to smoke 350z's and Mustang GT's when the situations show up. I even pulled away from a C5 Vette the other day. That I like.

I know the Solstice isn't a drag car, but I want it to have good straight line speed. I know the Solstice would leave my GTO in the dust around a tight track, but that's not enough for me.

What mods would a GXP need to run high 12s- low 13s in a 1/4 mile? That's the performance standard I would need to be satisfied.

I'm also concerned about the lack of storage space. I'll need to have a second car for going to the beach (body boards, surfboard cooler, etc) or picking up family (luggage) or just going to home depot to get a few things.

Lastly, I'm 6'3". Will I fit in a Sostice? I'm skinny (155 lbs) but tall.

But I love the looks of the Solstice Coupe, and an increase in gas mileage would be really nice.

Thanks for any advice.

The Westers tune with a few other mods, IC, CATBACK, etc... should put the GXP in the low to high 12's.
Chnage the turbo to a larger one and it will definetly be on the high 12's.
As far as fitting on the Solstice the only way to really know is go and sit on one.
Welcome to the forum.

From your point of view I can understand why the coupe, but my feelings are a lot more basic. I wanted a roadster and a convertible to me spells roadster.

I'm 6'3" and have no trouble fitting in mine. Also, I heard the coupe has even more headroom than the roadster (with the top up, obviously), so that should help.

But the coupe roof extends further down on the door opening, so banging your head on the top getting into the coupe is going to be a real problem. The convert is already a hazard to me (6'2") and the top is soft, so the coupe will definitely be painful.

With the caveat that I have only had mine a week, my personal opinion is the Solstice may not be your best choice.

Why? It's simply not designed as a straight line car. Sure, you can make it one, but I think that would tend to take away from what the car does best - the twisties. This car is at its best in the curves.

The other thing is, modding it to get to 12 is likely to take a big chunk out of your fuel economy, and you're likely to find yourself in a similar situation to what you have now. See this thread for an example.

If you love the looks and enjoy the handling and performance, it is a great car - just think there are better choices if your goal is simply quarter mile speed.
