2006 Sol with almost 80,000 miles - the battery was going away and the battery light was on so I replaced the battery - by the way - only had to remove fender brace and inner fender well was flexible enough that battery came right out - 30 minutes to change - but now the battery light will not go out - I tested the battery and the alternator is putting out a good charge - disconnected the new battery for several hours and when hooked back up light continues on - any conclusions? By the way - Pontiac dealer wanted $125 for battery and $100 to install. Got a good replacement for $70.

Maybe the light is there because of a code.
Need to get a scan tool and see if there is one, then clear it.

You could go to Auto Zone and have them clear it for you.

Can you take pix of of your battery removal? That could be a lifesaver in the future.

I will try to post pics but it is really simple - right behind the inner fender liner there is a black brace - it has one screw to the top of the fender, two to the frame, and one at the bottom. If you take out the rear inner fender well screws and those four, the inner fender well will fold back enough to allow the battery to slide right off the tray. No fender panels need be removed. The only reassembly tip - leave the top screw on the brace loose and lower the hood slowly to align the fender panel - it has a slot so it will move. 30 minutes easy - the Pontiac dealer wanted $125 for a battery and $100 to install! She is going to return the battery core and she will ask them to clear the code.

She took the battery core back to Discount but they don't do codes - she will stop at Auto Zone when she goes that way.

Turns out it was not the battery light although the battery was dead - it was the coolant light - reservoir was low.
