We'll my cat is clogged and its time to replace it and have no warranty options. A new OEM cat is going for about $800 not counting labor. Does anyone know of a good source where I can save some $$.
Hi In2Bass, How did you determine it was a clogged CC? Did your Solstice throw a P0420 code, or? Did you also replace the O2 sensors? Thanks for any context for your fix that you can supply.
The code is one way of determining a plugged cat - the more obvious is it runs like crap especially when your RPM is at about 3,900. The increased back pressure from the clogged cat makes your engine sputter and dog.
Just a suggestion they sell cleaners for cats and from all I have read they do work but again they will not fix a bad converter you can find these cleaners online or at any good parts store . As for the oxygen sensors I've had to replace both on my car with less then 30000 miles on it the one before the converter you can change with a regular socket but the one after requires a special socket that I purchased at Harbor Freight for under 10 bucks .If you need a converter I have one sitting in my barn that I replaced with a high flo cat at 22000 miles when I upgraded my exhaust system if interested PM me .
Thanks CW, I've recently noticed a little acceleration stuttering at low rpms, but otherwise all seems good. Someone backed into my Solstice in a parking lot so it's in the body shop for a week, but hopefully I'll be able to get a thorough engine diagnostic done soon.
hello I notice you said that you have a converter sitting in your barn. Can you tell me more about it.My 06 just went out and they want an arm leg and a foot for one.Cant believe how much they cost.Thxs
Don't toss those old cats in the trash. They are worth money at most salvage yards. Some sell for $75 to $80 It's the platinum inside that is valuable.
