Hi i wanted to know what are the differential issues that anyone has had and what do you do if you can't get the warranty to fix it. Do you upgrade? what do you upgrade to? what additives do you use? what is the gear ratio of the diff? anyone have these issues?
I have an 06 2.4L and the Diff needs to be replaced.. warranty is over ... i was quoted $2800 bucks to replace this. I know i can replace it myself or get it done some where else cheaper. any suggestions? Im also looking into getting a turbo, so this would have to factor into the stress of the diff.
Thanks

If you had problems with it during the warranty you should have called the hotline and requested an extension of warranty - if you still have documented problems you may be able to get it. I had some problems during my second year - they put a new diffy in and still had problems - several trips to the dealer (not his fault) and I was not satisfied. I called the hotline and they conferred with the service manager and I now have a warranty extended to 5 years from purchase which will be May 2011.

I bought an 06 in May that hadn't had the recall done yet and it was noisy. The dealer did the recall but said the rearend wasn't noisy enough to replace. They gave me a piece of paper to explain to me how a rearend operates and a certain amount of noise is common. It was like they thought I never owned a vehicle with rear wheel drive, I'm 48 years old, when I started driving I don't think there were very many front wheel drive cars around. I took it to a different dealer 3 days before warranty was up and this dealer changed out the rearend. I told them that if that pinion seal started leaking at 5000 miles, how long would a quart of lube last? They wouldn't answer that question. The new rearend is so quiet you don't even know its there. I've read on the forum that the ratio is 3.91 to 1 for a 2.4l, and the rearend for one of those LS1 cars is out of a Cadilliac CTS-V, but I'm not sure of that.

So far, they have fixed everything.
Yes i did have many problems with the diff since i bought the vehicle, and did the seal recall, but i moved out of the state i bought it from. ill have to give Pontiac a call and see what i can do.. but i know its a losing battle... This is why i was asking for suggestions on what type of diff is the new upgrades.. what version? maybe model number? because if i can't get the warranty extention then ill have to go this route... such a shame that the diff is one of the main week points of this car.
i have had many problems with the diff. its been leaking since i got it.
recently i took it to the dealer, just so they can look at it and they told me that it i would have driven the car about 1500 miles more i could have locked up the axle and blew out the back end.... Im like...... AWESOME!..(sarcastic as hell) so they filled the diff with fluids.. i forget what kind of additive?? does anyone know? but they told me it took 3 full quaters cause it was bone dry.... i didnt even notice.. no noise or anything.. just noticed that it didnt catch as fast as usual.. but the car is stock and slow, in general..

yes i took it to the dealer i bought it from and they told me it wasnt leaking when it obviously was. i think they didnt want to deal with me because they new i was moving out of state.. but thats what i wanted to know was which ratio is the best diff, if i were to add more HP my 06 is a 2.4L
my girl makes fun of me because after every time i pull into the garage after a drive, i always kneel behind the car and bow down on all fours and look for leaks....she calls it worship. ....... i call it paranoia.
