Drivers Side Seat Belt Wear Problem

I have had my Sol for 2 months now and the selt belt is wearing throught the edge of my leather seats.




I have talked to the dealership and they say they will fix it under warrenty. They also said it is a known issue and GM hasn't come up with a solution yet. The dealership is looking into aftermarket products to avoid this from happening again.

Has this happened to anyone else? What did they do to fix it? I am worried they are going to do some crappy patch since it is on the stitching.

They should replace the entire seat cover or at least the upper back portion of the seat. To prevent it from continuing to happen either make or purchase a seat belt retainer from Kappasphere or look at what they are selling and make your own. They are easy to make out of 3/8" or 1/4" carbon steel.

Wow! Never seen that happen. Had mine about two months, too. I know Kappasphere makes their seat belt extenders to get them within easier reach- maybe those might help this from happening again. But this is likely due to your body size and/or positioning I would think.

Wow! I've had mine almost four months now and no rubbing yet.(I just ran out and looked ) Looks to me like it wouldn't be a problem with a taller driver.

I've used the KappaSphere BeltXtenders on both my Solstices ... cloth and leather. Never had any problems. But, I'm also quite tall.

I am thinking of going with the Kappasphere Xtenders. Any idea on how long it takes to get them after ordering?

FWIW - I am feeling kind of short right now. LOL

I got them from another forum member so I can't address that -

Being a woman at 6' tall and at my age ..... FWIW .... most of my LIFE I was taller than my High Schools BOYS varsity Basket Ball Team .... by a good 2".

Now ... I don't pay that much attention to anyone's height ... its just not important!

I'm short, or average, 5'5", and at just shy of 60k miles, and no extenders, I also don't have any wear marks from the belt

After recieving some great intial service from the service advisor about this situation, I got to play phone tag with him leaving messages.

Now today I call and he is no longer employed at the dealership.

I had to re-explain what was going on and now they will say they will get back to me after they see if he left any info regarding this.

Nothing like a little drama added to a problem.

I hope this works out ok but we will see. If they won't replace the seat cover would I need to kick this up to a district rep?

You really should not have a problem with the Dealer. They know of the problem with the seat wear and the cause. If they give you a run around, yes bring it up to the next level after speaking with the Dealership owner. Give the owner a chance first and then if necessary go higher at GM. Then the Dealership can not complain that you never brought it to the attention of someone who could have resolved your problem. Good luck and keep us posted.

The day has finally come. I drop the car off Monday for repair. The dealership said they need the car for 3 days.

The new service advisor also said he has to have a seat shop fix it instead of replacing the seat cover. When it gets back from them then I can decide if it is fixed to my satisfaction.

They also indicated they did not have a solution to keep this from happening again in the future. I have suggested the Xtenders from Kappasphere but they said they cannot alter the path of the seat belt.

I get to drive a rental while its in the shop, hopefully its decent.

I will update the thread when I have pictures of the repair job.

Dealer told me to hit the bricks !

I have the same problem, And my dealer told me that they would not fix it ! My car is 1 year and 6 months and ny milage is 6,240. Why would they tell me its not there problem ?

Possibly becuase they agree with you that it is not covered.

Here is what you (as a buyer) have previously told GM would not be covered under warranty:

Poor designs are not covered. Slather the seatbelt with dielectric grease available from the dealership for only $49. Dry cleaning also not covered.
