Are any of you new Solstice owners taking the time to actually break-in your engines before running them hard? What does the OM say about breaking-in the engine, if anything?

I may have made a mistake, however I have the 100,000 mile bumper -bumper zero deductible warranty so... when I got it, the very first thing we did was to drive the 305 miles to Las Vegas in 3 hours and 40 min. Well over 80 for a great deal of the trip and a few time over 90 mph. We stayed in Las Vegas for about three hours and my wife drove it back to Phoenix in 3 hours and 37 min. 7,215 miles on her now (not my wife) and not a problem one. ~~ Trent

A couple of years ago I picked up my fathers Bullitt at the dealer for him cause he was out of town. The break-in went something like this:
Get in car.
Start car.
Find "Traction Control" button.
Turn TC Off!
Leave dealership lot.
Light 'em up.
Find rev limiter in 1st.
Find rev limiter in 2nd.
Find ABS threshold at first corner.
Drift.
Got the car home, sales manager was following me hom in my car, so I had to drive him back to work. Did much more of the same all the way back to the dealer. Dad's car has been more reliable than any of mine.
Took it easy for the first 200 miles. Then came the NEO/PA SOS. 500 miles on her now and she is broke in!!!!
I now know of 33 of them that are well broken in.....

Work into it. Change shift points, run at different speeds, increase RPMs, keep increasing the capabilities as you work to the first oil change. Change the oil (replace the pinion seal) and run the twisties at 5000RPM in second with a slight drift in the hairpins.....yeehaw

So many thoughts on proper break-in. I subscribe to this one: Variety. Don't do any one thing constantly, as say set out on a long highway trip with constant speed, and umpteen miles. Same with city driving, sure do some, but mix it up with the superslab too. Again variety. Cool down cycles are important too, in fact maybe the MOST important thing for a well seated motor, meaning several complete cool-downs (overnight) say within the first 500-600 miles or so. Variety, variety, variety.... from there, let her rip!

I absolutely hate this topic for the lack of knowlege we have about it.
Many people believe you should race a car from day one. I always wonder if any of these people keep a car until the motor fails or if they swap every 3-4 years, in which case it doesn't prove a thing.
I also wonder if you race it from day one, how many fewer miles does this translate to. 20,000 less? 2 less? Nobody on planet earth is able to answer this question, since as far as I know, no automaker or research firm has ever done a controlled study to see the effect of various factors such as break-in and synthetic oil on the life of a car's motor.
So all in all, I just hate this topic because I never learn a thing from it. I will follow my user's manual, but nobody has ever been able to prove to me why I should bother.

Good point - I say beat the heck out of it, then you can get a V-8 kit that much sooner
