Exhaust pipe carbon soot build up
Member

Join Date: Mar 2008
I have a general question regarding what other owners experience is regarding carbon soot build up in their exhaust pipes. I recently added a Magnaflow to my GXP and guess I notice it more in that the Magnaflow is shiny stainless both inside and outside. It seems that within a day or two the inside of the tips are completely coated with soot. Is this normal? It wipes off easily, just kind of bugs me! Any comments would be appreciated

It is perfectly normal. The original tips on your old exhaust was chrome inside and out as well you just couldn't tell.

Just clean the outside and don't worry about the inside, otherwise you will drive yourself crazy!

I cleaned them daily ... for the first month, but got tired of the constant "battle." Mines a daily driver, so I am use to the soot now. I only clean them on special occasions and wash days now.

I have the SOLO RCD exhaust. I wanted to powdercoat it black , but I just stopped cleaning the tips , and now they look like they're painted black.
