Extended Converter Warranty 2006-2007 2.4L Engines

Starting next week GM/Pontiac/Saturn will be sending letter to owners of 2006/2007 2.4L N/A model about an extension of the warranty coverage for the catalytic converter.

Included in the mailing will be instructions on obtaining reimbursement for anyone that has paid to have their converter replaced.

Know that many have posted with issues, not sure that anyone has outdriven the Federal or California Emission Warranties and paid for their repairs. If you have starting getting your receipts toghether and look for the mailing.

This is not a recall. Owners do not have to take their car back to the dealership unless their car is having the condition described.

Following is the relevant information from the dealership coverage notification.

Subject: 08300 -- SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT - EXTENDED CATALYTIC CONVERTER WARRANTY COVERAGE Models: 2006-2007 PONTIAC SOLSTICE 2007 SATURN SKY EQUIPPED WITH 2.4L ENGINE (LE5) Condition Some customers of 2006-2007 model year Pontiac Solstice vehicles, and 2007 model year Saturn SKY vehicles, equipped with a 2.4L engine (LE5), may comment on illumination of the malfunction indicator lamp (MAL) and/or lack of engine power. This may be caused by failure of the catalytic converter. Special Coverage Adjustment This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 120,000 miles (193,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. Dealers/retailers are to replace the catalytic converter. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer. Customers should not be charged for performing a system check when it is determined that the catalytic converter is not the cause of the customer complaint. Any additional necessary diagnosis and repairs that are not related to the catalytic converter are NOT covered by this special coverage. The customer should be informed that any further service that is not covered by the new vehicle warranty will not be covered by this policy. Customer Reimbursement - For Pontiac US All customer requests for reimbursement for previous repairs for the special coverage condition will be handled by the Customer Assistance Center, not by dealers. A General Motors Customer Reimbursement Procedure and Claim Form is included with the customer letter. Customer Letter June 2009 Dear GM Customer: As the owner of a 2006-2007 model year Pontiac Solstice or a 2007 model year Saturn SKY vehicle equipped with a 2.4L engine, your satisfaction with our product is very important to us. This letter is intended to make you aware that some 2006-2007 model year Pontiac Solstice and 2007 model year Saturn SKY vehicles, equipped with a 2.4L engine, may have a condition where the malfunction indicator lamp illuminates, and/or there is a lack of engine power. This may be caused by failure of the catalytic converter. Do not take your vehicle to your GM dealer/retailer as a result of this letter unless you believe that your vehicle has the condition as described above. What We Have Done: General Motors is providing owners with additional protection for the catalytic converter. If this condition occurs on your 2006-2007 model year Pontiac Solstice or 2007 model year Saturn SKY within 10 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 120,000 miles (193,000 km), whichever occurs first, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge . Diagnosis or repair for conditions other than the condition described above is not covered under this special coverage program. What You Should Do: Repairs and adjustments qualifying under this special coverage must be performed by a General Motors dealer/retailer. If you believe your vehicle has the condition covered by this special coverage, you may want to contact your GM dealer/retailer to find out how long they will need to have your vehicle so that you may schedule the appointment at a time that is convenient for you. This will also allow your dealer/retailer to order parts if they are not already in stock. Keep this letter with your other important glove box literature for future reference. Reimbursement: The enclosed form explains what reimbursement is available and how to request reimbursement if you have paid for repairs for the special coverage condition. Your request for reimbursement, including the information and documents mentioned on the enclosed form, must be received by GM by June 30, 2010. This happened to me (the check engine light came on) but I had a Solo Cat in at the time :S , they told me it was my o2 sensor that was messed up
and I think the dealership replaced the Solo with a stock cat

Already had my replaced...dealer said that they had a 10 year warrenty on them...and boy does the car run like $#@#$ when it goes bad.

Besides poor performance what are other indications? I'm getting a P0014 code, could this be related to this issue?

P0014 is for Exhaust Camshaft Position (CMP) System Performance.

Conditions for Setting the DTC P0014 • The control module has enabled the CMP actuator. • The difference between the desired CMP actuator angle and the actual CMP actuator angle is more than 6 degrees. • The CMP actuator is steady for 3 seconds. • The condition is present for 13.5 seconds

No tie in between this code and the catalytic converter.

I have a 2006 N/A with the 2.4L. I have always complained that the car lacks power. When I get on it, there is nothing there and then I finally get a burst of power but it's too little, too late. I received the letter in the mail last week.

A couple of days ago the check engine light came on and I checked the codes and it was the P0420 code. So I guess I need a new Cat. My question is: Do you think the bad CAT may have been responsible for my poor power issues? Do you think the power of my car will improve after the new CAT is put on?
