Front Wheel is Rubbing WheelWell..Dealer says too bad!!!

I took my car into my dealer because I was hearing a rubbing grinding sound on left turns. It turns out that the front left wheel is rubbing the wheel well causing the noise. The "retainer" fix was already applied over a year ago. This is supposed to fix the problem I am experiencing.
Since this "fix" has already been applied the service dept. is telling me that there is nothing that they can do to fix the rubbing.
I of course asked to speak to the Service Manager. He told me that he will call technical support to see if there is anything else he can do. He said if he does not get any more info than I will have to live with the problem!!

This seems completely ridiculous not to mention unsafe.
Anyone out there have any advice on what I should do?
I won't feel safe with my tire rubbing the wheel well. I thought a warranty was in place to actually fix problems!!

Hmmm ... I would think perhaps a NEW wheel well shroud is in order.

Maybe that would eliminate the problem I don't know if the newer shrouds have been redesigned to help with this issue (btw ... the wheel rub was for the BACK wheels not the FRONT)

Are you certain that the RUB is the front tire ... can you SEE where the rub is occurring? Just asking for clarification - it could be your clutch packs and NOT a wheel rub at all. (that is IF you have LSD)

The rear wheel rub was/is very obvious when it happens.

Moms I have no idea if the dealer is right or not, I am just going by what they told me. I see that the retainer clip fix was for the rear tires eh? Do you happen to have a link to that bulletin?
Thanks!

Check your hub bolts! My wife's GXP was making grinding/rubbing noise when turning left and it was the drivers side hub bolts backing out.

See this thread: PLEASE re read this thread! Safety related.

You know they have to replace one of my lug nut posts. they said they broke it during the tire rotation.
Do you think that might be related?

I have had great experiences after writing to GM about dealer experiences, for both good and bad experiences. I recommend sending a letter with your experience to them:

Definitely sounds like that could be a problem!

I'll go look for that "wheel rub" bulletin

So I called the dealer and they told me that they "adjusted the camber" and that if the adjustment does not fix the problem I will just have to live with it!!!
I told them that a tire rubbing on a piece of the car is clearly unsafe. The service manager responded by saying "Hell that's not true!! You can actually just take that piece off!!" He was referring to the wheel well.
Unbelievable!!!
I told him that I will have to call GM about this and he said "go ahead ,they are the ones that told me that it is unfixable!!"
What the hell should I do here?
Oh, the best part. He told me "Ihave old ears I can't hear anything over that muffler of yours!!"
I am seriously raging pissed right now.
I hope someone out there can give me a course of action.
Thanks.

Was the camber OUT? What was the reading before and after? Ask for the print out. Boy, the camber must have been WAY out in order for it to RUB ... enough that anyone could have SEEN IT WITH the bare eye I would think.

Do you have any pictures of where it is "rubbing"?

Moms I really have no idea, I wish I did. I am simply going by what the lousy dealer told me. I will definitely ask for the before and after on the camber. I will not be surprised if they tell me that they cannot provide it though. This place is pretty lousy.
I still can't believe that GM told them to adjust the camber and if it doesn't work to tell me to get scratched.

I actually called GM on my way home from work and they are going to look into it. I refused to pick up my car today like the dealer wanted. I will hear back from the GM rep tomorrow afternoon about this.
I will certainly keep you posted Momsol, and thanks.

Find yourself another dealer. Then let the GM rep know that you no longer trust this dealer, and want to use another one.

As a side note, I too have the rubbing/vibrating sound on hard left turns on the Mallett. I have had my dealer check it out, and they cannot find anything. I have checked the front hub mounting bolts, and they are torqued properly. So, I assume I have the wheel well rubbing problem. Whatever it is, it is annoying.

Oh this just gets better and better......
GM "customer service" finally called me back.
Here is what they told me:
"We spoke to the service manager. He told us that they cannot replicate the problem and that you need to put the stock muffler back on the car which might fix the issue."
WTF?
How can a muffler cause a wheel to rub? I asked the "GM rep" about this and all he said was that he cannot comment on the issue.
This is by far the most ridiculous thing I have ever experienced.
My car isn't fixed.
GM is not going to fix it.
The dealership also said that they "are unable to replicate the issue". This is after they told me that they found the front wheels rubbing.

Looks like I might have to trade or sell this car just to get away from GM.

Worst experience ever.

Don't panic yet!

Paperwork ... where's your paperwork that states that they concur the RUB is there?

Second ... the muffler in NO WAY is the cause of the rub and they cannot request you to change it out.

Third ... do you have a picture of the area in question?

Fourth ... did you get that print out of the alignment they "supposedly" did?

Have you had them RIDE WITH YOU to "replicate" the problem so YOU can point out the NOISE to THEM?
