Got a call from my dealer today that GM has sent them an update that some AC systems may not have been charged properly causing them blow warm air every so often.

thanks. I'm gonna tell the dealer to check this, I thought the a/c in Sol isn't that powerful.

Air conditioning problem, maybe

Best thing to do is have your dealership take a look at the charge level, then pull the system down, check for leaks and refill it, making sure it has 1.63lbs of refridgerant.

I called GM about 6 weeks ago and they finally called back. They say they don't know anything about it and that the "cycling" warm and cold is a "feature" of the AC system!!!
But if anything is discovered in the future, they will call.

I wonder if the noisy compressor is also a "feature" of the A/C system. I read somewhere (either on this forum or the Sky forum) that they are redesigning the compressors. I've been waiting for a replacement that has been on backorder for 2 months. Beginning to think that I won't see a new compressor until next summer...when I'll need it again.

With the weather getting cooler,
this is something I will have to keep on the list until next year.

That's on my list when I take mine in for pre-winter service. My AC never worked at all this year but didn't need it so I deferred it until next service.

With my Pontiac Firehawk, Wide Open Throttle (WOT) turns off the A/C so more power is delivered to the wheels. Check and see if it comes on when you "floor it". If so, it's running correctly, as the engine assumes you want to kick *ss.

I've attached the service bulletin that the dealer called me about on my AC problem with blowing warm air every so often.

http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=3635777

They checked for leaks and couldn't find any and then they evacuated the system and only recovered 1.25lbs of freon. They then refilled it with the required 1.63lbs of freon. Well, I was certain they had fixed my problem BUT when driving home I still think it was having the same problem but maybe not as frequent. I need to drive it some more to confirm. What I really want to do is hook up a light or voltmeter to the compressor clutch so I can see how often it is cycling off and on. I let you'll know what I find out.

Why not just turn it on in the winter and call it a heater with a "feature" of occassionally blowing cold air.

This car will shut down the A/C under a hard pull, doesn't have to be Wide open throttle.
