High Engine Temp/overheat Poll And Log

For the data consolidation and collection regarding the high temp/overheating issue, Please copy and paste these below questions to a new post and answer as briefly as possible.

Also, Please answer these questions only to minimize the difficulty of weeding through non-pertinant information while trying to consolidate the data. If you have been watching your temp on the DIC and have not noticed this spike Please answer questions 1 and 2 only. N/A the rest. Please only post once unless the problem does occur after you have answered no and identify that it has changed.

Thank you. I will try to keep this updated as best and as often as I can until I feel the need has reached it's intent.

Q.3. Highest temp you saw on the DIC (normaly/during the occurance? = 240+

Q.4. Did it fully over heat or just go back to normal? = ??? 240+ was the highest. Overheat would be over 260. I shut it down in the garage. The fan were going strong when I left it. The next day I could not duplicate the problem.

Q.5. Has the occurance happened more than once ? No
Q.6. Have you been successful with a dealership in getting it fixed? No, I drove there the next day and found they had closed the dealership (after 20 or 30 years of business!)

Q.8. Has it happened since the repair? N/A

Just to add, they gave me the data logger to catch it-when I saw 254 it only logged ~220-230

Btw this only happened when the car was warming up for me, once it was warmed up it never overheated.

Q.3. Highest temp you saw on the DIC (normaly/during the occurance? = A.) 243

Q.4. Did it fully over heat or just go back to normal? = A.) no CEL, cooled back down after a few minutes... only happens when near freezing temp outside and during warmup.. once warmed up and t-stat starts working it doesnt overheat... suspect t-stat sticking maybe from dex-cool residue.

Q.5. Has the occurance happened more than once (# of times recall seeing)? = A.) a bunch... about 7-10 maybe more that I have not noticed.... noticed low coolant from boiling, coolant dripping out of reservor

Q.6. Have you been successful with a dealership in getting it fixed? = A.) no

Q.7. What did they replace? = A.) na

Q.8. Has it happened since? (if Q.6 & Q.7 are NO, answer N/A) = A.) na

Q.7. What did they replace? = Thermostat

Q.8. Has it happened since? (if Q.6 & Q.7 are NO, answer N/A) = No - but if I have the heat on 100% or nearly, it runs a good 10-20 degrees hotter than if the heat is at 50% or less.
