Removing the Battery from the car

Has anyone removed the battery from the car?

If so, how can you get it out without removing the panel or other items in the way?

you cannot. you have to remove that whole "fender" it isnt hard at all. I didnt it all in about 30mins with putting it back together.

Why do you want to remove it ?

Yeah.. want to put it inside, instead of outside for the winter.

Which is easier to remove, the fender or small metal panel?

Why not invest in a battery maintainer for $20 and leave it in the car - that's what I am doing. The temps get below 0F here.

Removing the battery...

So, if you buy battery somewhere besides Pontiac, they going to install for free? and more importantly, going to know how to do it?
are you kidding me? Can't believe this design!

I replaced the battery in my 2000 Jetta 1.8T last year. Not exactly a cake walk either. But, it was actually not as bad as replacing headlights in it. Thats why I love forums like this and vwvortex.com . You can figure these things out before you start wrenching and not mess up as often.

I'd also recommnd the battery maintainer. Mine was on sale at Canadian Tire for $20.00 and works like a charm. Don't have to remove the battery that way.

My car is in a storage garage, but when spring time comes I'm just going to take out the stock battery and replace it with an Optima battery if I can find a yellow top that's small enough.

Lets see what other cars have such idiotic designs...

Audi, have to remove the rear seat to get to the battery.

Boxter, you can't work on the engine without removing parts of the interior.

Sybring, Got to remove the inner wheel liner to get at the battery

Corvette...yeap got to remove part of the bady to get the battery

That's all that comes to mind at the moment
