Could everyone go out to their cars and look in the rear wheel wells. Yes, the wheels in the back!
Let's start with the right rear wheel.
Take your fingers and lay them on the top of the tire and slide your hand towards the front on your way to the ground.
Do you make it all the way around or do you hit the inside well cover?
Ladies, your fingers may slide past so use your thumb.
I have noticed on both sides that the inner cover/shroud, whatever it is, has been scuffed a bit by the tire.
Don't fret, I do have a solution!
Option #1, take one of your plastic push buttons off and go to your dealer to buy (1) and pay out the butt for it.
Option #2, go to your local parts store and buy a package of "panel/trim retainers".
I got mine at the local Advanced Auto Parts store. It is newer than most and I was lucky to find them there. Part #45680, 15ct Body Tite, made by a company called Dorman. Only a few bucks.
Now what you are going to do with this one fastener is to pull your rear wheel and locate the area that would best serve making a hole and inserting the fastener.
Don't stress this, I have had my shroud off to locate the power antenna so I know that there is nothing behind this at all. Want to wait until I get pics up tomorrow night, that's fine too.
Hole #1 is 15/64" diameter. This is for the fastener.
Hole #2 is for the shroud only and is 17/64" in diameter.
Be sure to hold the shroud firmly in place before match drilling. This is important! Have someone hold the shroud for you if need be.
Clean up the shroud hole as it will melt on the edges when drilled.
Press the fastener in the hole in a firm but deliberate motion.
You will gain anywhere from 1/4-3/8" more clearance.
Now I cheated and while having the shroud off I placed velcro patches in 2 specific areas to be certain that it won't move again. The fastener does hold firm and tight.
Bear in mind that these are one time only use devices. If you get this in half way you will have to cut it off with some snips and start over. Push the dead end into the car. The head will fly off into the garage somewhere.
