Seat and Armrest Squeak! Assistance, Please…..

Will you guys please check to see if the outside of the passenger seat is hitting up against the armrest on the door panel. I finally figured out where a squeak was coming from. It’s because the panel is butting right up against the seat, and, it’s leaving an indentation that can be seen when the passenger door is open. Every time I go over a bump, I get this squeak!

I just contacted my dealer’s tech and he told me that he sees this in almost every Sol. Don’t know if this is an issue with you but when I posted this concern a short time ago, I had a few fellow Forum members say, “I was wondering where that noise was coming from!”.

Please take a moment and look straight down at this area (put the top down; it’ss the only way to go) and see if there is any room between the seat and the door panel. The driver’s side has about 1/3” gap.

To fix this problem, my tech loosened the seat bolts and tried to move the seat closer to the console. No Luck! There is no ‘play’ in those holes. I am bringing my Sol back to the dealer on Friday and he will, probably, have to elongate the holes so that we can move the seat towards the center.

Your comments are very much appreciated…..Thanks for your time…….

I have noticed an occassional squeak when the terrain is right, but nothing when a passenger is in it.. I was thinking it was the seat back latch that was wiggling a bit.. No? Too cold here for top down..

I'm all ears

If I recall this has been mentioned before. Yes, the passenger seat does rest against the armrest. So far mine doesn't squeak. If the metal seatbelt buckle/clasp is left up above the armrest it clanks against that side of the door because it can't slide down.

And I have seen posts here about the seat touching the door and didn't put it together. This may be my prob too. I'm with "fivespokes". I thought it was the back latch and it's mighty cold here as far as checking with the top down. But I am all ears too as far as where this thread leads in terms of a fix. The squeek stops if I reach over and firmly hold the pass. seatback to keep it from moving. I would love to learn of an easy fix, it's definitely annoying.

Fivespokes, Sorry your weather is prohibiting you from putting down the top. We're being spoiled this week in the Midwest, especially today when the temp hit 79. YAHOO!!

Glide Rider, It's definitely NOT the seatbelt although I also have read about the noise with the seatbelt. Thanks, anyway!!

Others, please comment.....

Took my Mysterious to my dealer today to get his take on my squeaky seat. He saw that the seat was butting up against the console so he could not remove it and therefore, enlongating the holes would not help.

We have decided to have him remove the seat and remove the leather covering. He will remold the metal inside and move it about 1/3" towards the center of the seat in order to alleviate the problem.

Signed, Squeaky (for now)....

I have same squeaky passenger seat on door, but simple solution is just to move seat forward enough so that the side leather does not touch the door. You don't have squeaks when a passenger is in the seat due to the added weight, though it still rubs. This is reason you don't have the same problem on the driver side

On the way home from picking up my Solstice, I heard a little squeak coming from behind me and discovered the seatback latch was rubbing against the plastic behind the seat. I'm 6'2", so I had the seat pushed all the way back, it was also partially reclined with the result that the seatback latch was wedged up against there pretty tight. I simply reduced the degree of recline so the latch release no longer rubs and the problem was solved.

Wait, there's more (isn't there always?). I walked around to the passenger side, and the seatback latch handle was actually broken off! The car came with 40 miles on it and had been on display at the dealer, so I'm assuming the seatback had been reclined, then pushed back all the way, breaking the the lever. To make a long story short (too late), I had the dealer order a replacement handle and it came in, redesigned. It's substantially narrower than the stock handle, but I can still get it to rub if I lean the seat back far enough.

So if you've experienced this problem, have the dealer order you the new parts.

Cool, good find Chris I was thinking the aftermarket should design a slimmer latch or maybe even rubber material.

Shaw,

Yes, I agree but yours is a short-term solution. I, myself moved the seat into a position where the armrest does not touch the side of the seat. Actually moved the seat back, not forward. Did this before I saw your post. However, there is a definite indentation that is left in the seat side where the armrest was pressing. I have not had the time to take the Sol back to the dealer to get the seat modified. No problem with the driver's side at all....
