So much for resale of the Solstice

Been following Sols and GXPs at auction over the past several months. Also, listings in ebay, autotrader and cars.com. Really just out of curiosity, since my GXP is not up for sale.
2008 Solstice GXP on the lot at a local used car dealership, independent, and high end. He has this low mileage, '08, loaded, auto trans, 1200 or so miles, for $26K. That is no typo. For all of the prognosticators who claim they have lost only so much on their 06 and 07 base and GXPs, I suggest visiting used car lots or dealers with used inventory of these and see how quickly they sell, at what price, and how much off of the original MSRP. MSRP on this one would have been over $32K, and unless the original owner got a smoking deal, or new someone at GM/Pontiac, then the asking price, assuming the used car dealer wants to make some profit----then the asking price suggest a $7K or so depreciation from MSRP. So much for resale values based upon all these other non-reality based publications. The real world again proves quite different.

I wonder if this pinion seal reliability issue, along with other incidents have affected the desirability of the Solstice in general?

Personally, I've gone through 2 seals and will be having my top replaced with less than 10,000 miles.

That's about what I paid for my '07, used last year. The new dealer still wouldn't budge an inch from MSRP. If the new cars aren't dropping yet, you're still in good shape.

I guess being in a wheel chair is license to insult and drive away potential customers.
Dealers hold to the depreciation formula but DECAPITATION is uncalled for.
Dealer wheel chair dude didn't like me saying his decapitation formula (35%) was out of line as I was walking out to go back to the Jeep side to see if 2007 Jeep was ready from scheduled service.
Point is in the first 6 months, by the formula, a Solstice will lose 27% in value-PERIOD!
Second point is we as owners don't have take this depreciation and from what I see, WE don't.
The people who take this hit are uprgading their Sols without concern for price or are people who made a "mistake" and traded out at a loss.
Totally agree. It is really forumulaic at best. But, there are some here who have SWORN that their 06 NA and even 07 GXPs are appreciating in value versus what they paid or that they have lost a miniscule percentage if at all. I do not see this in fact in the "real world". At auction, or otherwise...

The dealer offered me $19,500 for my $30,000 MSRP 2007 GXP I bought in June, which has 5000 miles on it. I wasn't looking to buy immediately so I didn't bother haggling, but I've seen the same car on autotrader (Orlando) for $27k.

Thank you. New cars don't appreciate. Maybe early on a used Sol was worth what it was new, when there were not many around. Thats not the case anymore. GM has cash on the hood... of 08's... they wouldn't be discounting '08's already if there was a ton of demand, and that means used ones are not going to be worth MSRP anymore.

As for why... one, the market has leveled. The initial demand from those who just had to have one is gone. Second, the economy is tanking. The housing market went upside down, consumer confidence is extremely low, and the "R" word is getting tossed around. When the economy turns sour, people cut out discretionary spending, and there isn't much more discretionary than two seat sports cars.

But the car for sale at a local high end used car lot---a guy who sells his share of Range Rovers, Porsches, Audi, BMW, M-B, Cadillac (mostly Escalades and an occasional CTS) had the 2008 1200 mile GXP for 26K and change, and this was an extremely attactive loaded one with automatic. If a used car dealer is SELLING one that MSRPed above $32K and is selling it at $26K-$27K, then you can bet HE PAID even less to obtain it. Of course, it is January and was 26 degrees at 3 AM when I drove TOP DOWN 240 miles to Las Cruces, but then again, if I could do that with the love of my PHATGXP then others could buy one for that savings and pocket the rest. Seems to reason...

They will go down, if they ever go back up remains to be seen.

When I turned 16 in 1969 you could pick up a 57 chevy for $250 to $450.
I should have bought a dozen.

And do you have XM?
I saw $15K Sols just now on eBay while searching prices for mufflers.
$15K = mice type.
So did you mumble KMA on the way out? Keep my auto

24th, lets see thats a Thursday. I will be in Albuquerque on the 25th, a Friday for sure. If you are gonna be around Friday, I would love to meet up with you. My GXP I use to cruise down here to Las Cruces, weekly, but I make it back to the Duke city on Fridays, sometimes Thursdays. Gotta look at my clinical schedule for next week, however. No doubt, I will be in Albuquerque that Friday. There are some good haunts for beer, burgers and a great twisty ride up to Madrid, NM along the Turquoise Trail that I love, just east and north of Albuquerque heading towards Cerillos and Santa Fe. Nice road and I love my Harley and GXP on this road. You'd love it too. There also have a tavern--an old rustic tavern called the Mine Shaft Tavern in Madrid that has excellent green chili buffalo burgers and excellent local micro brews from New Mexico and Colorado. Nice folks too. Let me know if that works.
Steve

I'm not trying to playa-hate or otherwise make your day unpleasant. I just want to add some reason to the forum that at times, some like to tout the resale value of this great car and exaggerate that way out of touch with reality. I love my GXP and I drive it daily. 20K plus miles and counting. But, I don't plan on selling it and I don't need to ask the price for myself---I offer real world pricing that I see in Albuquerque, Phoenix, and El Paso. I also have close colleagues who own a premium used car outlet and they keep me informed. Still want a Z06 and I now want an Aston-Martin too. But, I want the right price as usual for me.
