For 30 bucks - bite-the-bullet, you can always use another jack.

Well guys, I have two of the BMW pads, and am thinking of getting two more, for the front. I don't see why they can't be cut down to clear the body panels.

Thanks for your help.

Jim
I have the Craftsman jack and it works fine. I have 2 floor jacks and I place one behind the front wheels on each side where the pad on the frame is and jack each side up a little at a time back and forth keeping them pretty even until I get the height I want.

Did you ever hear back from GM??? Most of us have already had our cars up a few times for oil and tires but it would be nice to hear what GM had to say about pictures.
In a few months I will have to put Little Red up on blocks for the summer, how's that for being different?, as we spend the summers in Montana and $2,000 round trip for Little Red is a bit to much for the wife to understand. I know why I need to take my baby to the mainland, but wifey can not seem to understand that need. I guess it sort of feels to her like I have a misstress? So I will put the car up and take her wheels off. Wheels off is so that the kids will use the Toyota rather than go to all the trouble of putting wheels back on Red when they borrow the house for summer vacations.

L.R.,

I did hear back (about a month after the original email ): "We're sorry, but we cannot provide you with pictures. Please visit your local Pontiac dealer who can take car of all your service needs. bla bla bla."

The Corvette C5 C6 lift pads?

Can anyone confirm that the lifting pads for the CORVETTE C5 C6 JACK JACKING LIFT PADS on Ebay fit the solstice GXP? There are some listed as fitting the Solstice that are the same as the Corvette but have a side cut off of them.
Thanks
Joe

see the second post in this thread and this thread as well
BMW Jack Inserts review [good & bad]

the corvette forum was using BMW pads......discussed in the second post and pics and review in the thread posted....and this assumes the lift points are the same for the GXP as for the N/A model...which one would believe they are

Just thinking out loud, but if any of the vendors that are coming to Nashville will bring this item (lifting pads), then I bet they could sell alot. They take very little space (for shipping) and I bet the profit margin is pretty good on these items. JMHO

I have a 3.5 and I use a piece of 1 x 4 between it and the car....I lift it midway down the side ...on the frame...and it frees up both left (or right) wheels at the same time
for cleaning and rotating.

why waste money on pad..if a piece of wood does the trick??

I painted my callipers front and back yesterday and had to jack the car. I read all of the posts about painting calipers and most of the jacking threads EXCEPT this one!

When I started, I only had one jack - a small five and a half inch model which would not fit under the car at all. Rather than go out and buy yet another jack, I simply put two paving bricks on the floor and drove the front end up on them, giving me about 2 extra inches I needed to get the jack under the car.

I lifted my Sly using the front lifting points and placed the stands at the position where Dengel pictured lifting from - under the front suspension knuckle.

After I finished doing the front end callipers, I then turned the car around for the back callipers and backed up on the same bricks to allow room for the jack. I used the jacking point that Chemist used on the back and placed the stands on the rear knuckles as previously described.

All worked out well and after all that monkeying around, my red callipers look drop dead gorgous on my Sly. When it comes to jacking and jack stands, one just has to keep asking ones self - if I put it there, will it hold the weight of the car or will I be ripping something off?

This forum is such a good resource and gives me the encouragement and information I need to try things I may never have attempted before or on my own.

Thanks to all of you in this thread for the information.

PAO,

Thanks, I did look through all of that info.
AFAICT the only place to use those lifting pads is on the LIFT points on the Rear(in front of the tire).
The reason I brought this up was seeing an add on ebay for modified pucks to fit the SOL
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SATUR...QQcmdZViewItem
They show a cutaway version that I'm wondering if will fit the front of the SOL.
As Brentil said, he did not see how ANY lift pad could work on the front lft points. This seems to be backed up in the lifting instructions that you posted.
Thanks
Joe

I haven't looked at the owner's manual for the tires but don't you need all 4 wheels off the ground at the same time to rotate the tires? Doesn't rotation require 2 back tires moved forward (same side) and 2 front tires moved back - front left to right rear and front right to left rear

Your post is contradictory!!!! I think the tires must be cross exchanged which would require all 4 wheels off the ground - 4 jackstands.
