The GXP tires are "directional" tires, which means they go front to back (or visa versa) but they do not X ... which sounds like what lloyd was saying (suggesting).

Look at your owner's manual for the NA Solstice. I don't know about the GXP but I expect it would be the same. Back tires come to the front - same side. Front tires move to the back and are crossed - Front Left to back right and front right to back left.

The back tires don't X. They come straight to the front according to the NA solstice manual. The front tires go to the back and X. I don't know what the GXP manual says.

A good photo!

I think this post FINALLY gives a good look at the proper lifting points for our car (the 2nd photo attached). Maybe I missed one earlier, but this one looks good.

I was speaking of the GXP tires not NAs. They (GXP) are Directionals and do not X ... just swap the 2 on the left and right. (front to back ... back to front)

Just got back from the BMW dealer with my jacking pads. As stated before they work just fine for the rear, but do not clear the front. Good thing I only bought 2 of them. They clip in and sta in place, but can be removed rather easily. I'm not sure they would stay in while driving.

BMW Part numbers (these are for the older E39 model BMW's) They are round, not the newer rectangular version.

51-71-1-960-752 Support 6

that is what is listed under the part number / description part of my invoice.

They were $10.14 a piece plus tax.

Hope this helps out someone looking for them.

Installing front jack pads

I bought all "supports" as BMW calls them, for under $7.00 each. Part no. 51 71 1 960 752, the round ones, not the later rectangular ones, as was said earlier. I might have missed it, but I know that the rear supports just snap in, no problem. But the front ones have the body panel in the way. So what do you do? YOU CUT THEM! Then they fit perfectly. Cut them AS SHOWN, with the rib fillets being cut off, as a guide. They snapped in just like the rears, then.

Thank you all!!!

Thank you all for the threads and various links for the pads out there and to you "Lucy's Daddy" for the very excellent pic of how you cut two for the front panel issue. I just ordered four from BMW Parts and BMW Accessories | Bavarian Autosport at $6.95 each plus shipping. Just another necessary tool for "Patty". Again, thank you all!!
Bill

I still can't figure out why you need these?

I am more interested in how everyone is placing their jacks on the A arms. My jacks are holding them up precariously.

I didn't read all of the above posts on jack inserts, but I have one of the best solutions and the cheapest. Use Hockey Pucks as jack pads! They are cheap and can be easily found. I've used these on all my cars, including Vettes.

Being in Louisiana, I know not of what you speak when you say, "Hockey Puck" and "easily found"

Bandit,

Hockey Pucks are donut sized firm rubber, stronger or more solid than a typical rubber bushing found on cars. When placed on a floor jack, will do virtually no harm to the lift points on the car. They are about 1" thick. You shoud be able to find them in sporting goods stores and probably Wal-Mart. As long as you can fit it between the jack and the body you're home free.

My local dealer can pick it up on a standard hyd lift without any pucks and not dent the rocker panel.

I think he was pulling your leg about not knowing what they are... but ya, they won't be "easily found" in Lousiana... heck, I would have had to go to a sports store in Los Angeles when I lived there, and they might have had some. Not even nearly as easy to find here in Seattle as they are over the border in Vancouver.
