Go to start the car and it will start right up other time turn the key and it will make a strange noise and hesitate before starting.
Has anyone else had this problem.

off hand it sounds like a dieing battery. Funny thing we have all these CPU based cars"smart" they are, but if you have dead battrey it cant tell you before its dead?

Since our battery is in a very cool place as fare as heat goes you would think this would make them last longer. Though a OEM battery is never that great. Our 2000 neon went through 4! in two years all replaced by plymouth, the last battery the dealer was out so he had to "BUY" an Interstate brand battery to get us back on the road, that battery still sits in there today?

Starting to have a strange starting problem a couple of months ago, start the car and she starts right away, start it again and it sounds as if it is not getting enough gas and then finally starts, a couple of times it attempts to start and then stops, I then have to restart the car, then it starts right up. Not sure if and when this problem could be duplicated at the dealer so I have not taken it in yet.
My ECM tune was done about two years along with the intake and exhaust. So I know that I have not done anything to the car recently........

That is typical of a battery going dead, what happens as it gets weaker is the security system will start clicking more and more and you won't be able to do anything. Same thing happened to me. Changed battery, no more problems.

Not a low battery problem!

Yes, low battery, place it on a charge to see if it stops doing that.

Okay, as I said it is not a low battery problem. The car will start up on a day after it has sat for over a week, then on driving it and restarting a little later it will turn over and start with very low RPM's then raise up to normal running RPM's, sometimes it will run the starter for the ecm's predetermined time and then shut off, on restarting it will start up immediately. The misstarts sound as if the car is not getting enough fuel. Let the car sit for a couple of hours and the same thing. This has only started recently, it is not connected to my mods as they were done during the first few months that I got the car back in 2006.

I would guess that myself and the other poster are wondering , how many other people may have this problem as the first generation owners are still experiencing bugs that are usually inherent to first gen vehicles.

Bummer, how many miles on your car, pull a plug to see if they are fouled. Is you warranty still good? Maybe you can duplicate it to the dealer.

Mine has done it occassionally, but it's not really an issue to me...it runs great. I have heard this with many, and dealers saying they cant do anything because they could not duplicate the issue.

I also seem to be having the same issue.

Starts fine one time, almost always in the morning, then at lunch doesn't seem to want to start. But has always fired up.

One time it started really wierd, not just turning engine over several times before starting.
This time when it did fire it did not idle right (very low RPM's) then shot way up before selling at correct RPM's for idling. it has only done this once.

Seems wierd to me several cars seem to be showing this issue tight at the same time, my car develoved this only in the last 2 months.

I do have a first 1000 car, been driving it since 9/30/05. Up to this point it has always started right up (vroom!!!), with almost no cranking required.

My thought was it was a fuel or spark issue, but the engine cranks over without much issue.

Chime is some more as I intend to have the dealer take a look and any info before then would be helpful.

Thanks!

Check the relay going to the ECM in the fuse box in the engine compartment. It gave me the same sort of problems until it went completely dead, and I had to be towed back to the dealer and they found what was causing the problem. They told me at the dealer if I would have known it was the relay I could have avoided the tow by just switching the relay with one of the other ones like the wipers until I made it to the dealers.

Not only the relay but the connector into the BCM!
