Ordered a GXP a couple weeks ago, but have only recently gotten the chance to sit in one. Im 6' 4" so it was a bit tight, but I do fit and am willing to deal with a little discomfort. Room is a bit tight for my clutch leg and there isnt much room between the steering wheel and the door, so rather than cancel my order I was wondering if there are any smaller steering wheels that will bolt up to the GXP to get that extra little bit of room. Dont really care if the replacement has an airbag or not.

Hi fish,
You might also want to consider modifying(removing and using something else to open the door with) the grab handle on the driver's door to give your left leg a little relief next to the wheel as it is now. It's what sticks out and hits your leg a bit. Looks like a do-able mod that might help.-bird
I like the smaller wheel idea, too.

Did you try adjusting the up/down tilt of the steering wheel?

OK here is the deal for maximum room for tall guys. Start with the seat back wheel adjusted so that the seat is as far forward as it will go. Next slam the seat all the way back. You will now note that there is a pretty big gap between the top of the seat and the grey tulip panel. If you have long fingers you can slowly roll that wheel so that the seat back closes the gap otherwise you need to move the seat forward and then adjust the wheel so that the seat moves about as far as the gap. Slam the seat back and check the gap again. When you have it adjusted just right you will get the maximum amount of leg room and you will not have to sit bolt upright to do it. This will result in the seat back release digging into the back of the trim somewhat so you might want to go to the local craft store and purchase some felt with the sticky backing and place that where the seat back latch hits the trim.

It would also be nice if one of the MODS would add this write up to one of the sticky areas ... Thanks!

Sparco and Momo should have smaller wheels, the issue would be attaching it, and of course loosing the airbag. As long as GM didn't decide to rewrite the book on steering wheel attachment an exsisting adapter should work to attach a new aftermarket wheel. Momo even has a hub adapter with an air-bag emulating connector to disable that pesky light. I suppose that solution would depend on whether or not you wanted to go that route.

If you wer buying a Sky, I'd suggest an Ion steering wheel.

the one thing about the after-market steering wheel, what are you going to do about the controls on the old steering wheel. you could steal them out of the old wheel and fab up a custom bracket to hold those buttons. then the wheel will be totally custom

I only sat in the car briefly to see if I could even fit, didnt notice the controls on the steering wheel or try the seat back thing. I will have to go back and take a closer look and try the seat thing to see how it works out. Airbag really isnt too big a deal for me. Thanks for all the help guys.
