Top 'catching' on itself issues

Does anyone else have a problem with the top 'catching' itself when coming out of the trunk? I have an 07 with the premium liner and when the top is being buttoned back up the weather strip is catching on the cloth liner and causing a 'snag' for lack of a better term. It hasn't done any damage yet, but it's annoying.

The weather strip separates in the middle of the top to allow it to fold back into the trunk. When bringing it back out, my rear driver's side strip catches on the hem of the front half of the top. The passenger side goes up with no problem. I'm currently just running my finger along there and separating the strip from the canvas before it catches.

I've got to take my car back in for the diff leaking, again. I'll ask them about the top too. I'm sure they will tell me it's something I'm doing wrong. Just curious if anyone else had the same problem.

Thanks,

Joey----

Well, I took the car in and had the differential fixed for the 2nd time. I also told them about my top and my cupholder. The service sheet on my top reads:

Customer states left side of top gets caught in top mechanism when closing, check and advise.

Left Side Pivot Bracket improperly positioned & cables out of adjustment : Repositioned left pivot bracket assembly, adjusted cabling & lubricated w/strip

Warranty - $0.00

I take my car to Ferguson Pontiac in Broken Arrow. They have been extremely pleasant to deal with, even with the most trivial of complaints.

I had it and my dealer fixed it in no time, said there was an adjustment

on my car the bottom of the bitress wouldn't ride along the little rubber trak on the car, that would make it misalign on the wiindow

fix was nothing to it

I also get the cable cought on the window sometimes and have to open the door before I clip down the butressses

So what u are saying is that the pin didnt align with the hole in the rubber on the door when the top goes up? I have that problem on the passenger side, and have to actually pull the top over into the hold to align it. they said there was no fix for that? What exactly did your dealer do?

YA, that was exactly my problem, on hte passenger side too...whhen it went off track I had to re insert the roubber which pulled off it's seating in the door too

I had the exact problem as you,,,there is an adjustment for it, I don't know what that adjustment is but the dealer had it fixed in no time, get it there, make sure the window gasket didn't come off the metal track in the door too, if it did ppoint that out to the dealer as well, that can be a pain to get back on if it's been off the track for a while since the rubber has a memory

I also have a top problem but it's slightly different. I ALWAYS raise my top from the driver's side. I've noticed the top is getting harder to raise, it seems to catch just before it's the entire way up. After a little tug the top is up and I can latch it in place. A couple of weeks ago I was cleaning my car and went to put the top up from the passenger side. When I was raising the top I noticed the small door which raises to let the top mechanism fold forward was chipped along the edge. Further investigation showed it was catching on the top mechanism. There was a sharp spot on the metal mechanism that was doing damage to the door. I wrapped the metal piece with some black duct tape to pad the spot and to see if that stopped the issue. Well it didn't. I still have the problem. My car is going back to the dealer to have this fixed. Check the underside of the small doors near their center edge to see if you have the same problem.

Supposedly my dealer is calling an engineer to come down and look at the car, but I have not heard from them yet, which has been the story since I brought the car in to them. its almost like they dont want to deal with it.

this is bizzare, my drivers side just started to catch also...do you know how they fixed your grandmoithers car?

mine seems to be pinching inside the butress...I tried playing with the metal flap that rises and that seemed to do the trick but the next time it happened it didn't work

so what is catching?

it's hard for me to figure it out but it's something inside the butress

that's exactly what's happening on my drivers side but it didn't start until you started this thread

I have a hell of a time getting the top closed now, I have to wiggle that joint around and get it to fit, it's trial and error

I expect them to have that fixed as soon as I drop it off, it looks like a simple adjustment to me

we'll see
