I picked up VIN 750 yesterday (Saturday) and have been enjoying the car. However, two very dissappointing problems have arisen that will take me back to the dealer tomorrow.

First, there is a problem with the top mechanism. There is a ball and socket connection for the mechanism that is just over the passenger right shoulder that pulls the top fabric tight to seal with the window. The second time I put the top down, I heard a loud snapping sound. When I went to put the top back up, it did not seal around the passenger window. The ball and socket had come apart. With much effort, I was able to snap the socket over the ball. Every time I put the top down, the ball and socket comes apart. The following pictures show the ball and socket apart.

I inspected the car when I picked it up, but didn't notice a very small ding in the trunk lid at the corner near the front of the passenger side tail light assembly. I'm not sure if it shows on the picture, but you can see it when you're close to the trunk lid. Also, the gap between the trunk lid and the body along the passenger side is a little wide.

I will have to visit the dealer to see what he has to say. Other than these annoyances, the car is great.

make sure that the dealer contacts GM about it, they really want dealers input on quality control issues.

Thanks for reporting the problem, I hope all owners report issues here, and that the dealers report them to GM. Hope it gets fixed quick.

As for the ding, the dealer should fix it for you, as long as you get it in right away for inspection. The car I bought this spring had several imperfections on the paint (minor scratches), I had a IOU form them to fix them before I drove it off the lot, each of them detailed to where they were on the body. But I missed one significant one, they didn't hassle me about it, took my word it was there upon delivery. But it can be tricky once you leave the dealer, then it's more customer service - hopefully they are a good dealer! Get it in right away (you're probably already there as I type).

Shouldnt there be some kind of snap ring inside that socket holding the ball? How does it look on the other side?

The clip might be missing and that is letting the ball slip out of the socket.

Take care-Steve

or it might have broken, that might have been the sound you heard. And if the clip is broken or missing, it will keep coming apart.

What is your opinion of the color of the interior?

While reading the manuel this weekend, I did see that the top is not to be raised unless the windows are down, just wanted to make sure you were aware of that. My trunk lid also has what I would consider to be a large gap, I am going to run by the dealer tomorrow to get there opinion. It may be normal, but I am not sure.

I always have the windows down during any top operation (up or down).

When I snap it back together, I hear a click, so the snap ring is probably still there. There is some reason that it is coming un-done when I lower the top.

I love the interior. It looks great. Not the same ol' same ol' as other cars. I think it goes exceptionally well with the Cool.

It looks like the "socket" side is adjustable sort of like a tie rod end. Maybe it it is adjusted a little too far, and it is consequently snapping loose. I would want that piece replaced and adjusted a bit if I were to take it back to a dealer.

Hopefully it's only an adjustment problem. Could be a defect and will be repaired or replaced soon. This car is getting alot of attention from everyone, so all problems should be fixed quickly.
