I have a hard decision to make. Maybe owners who have done the recall already can help me.
I have a 2007 GXP which doesn't make any problems at all. It has been at the garage only for oil service so far. The rear axle differential works perfectly, no whine, no clunk. So I can say I am lucky. There is only one thing you guess already: the differential leaks a little bit. That means if the car stands in the garage for let's say 3 days, there are one or two drops of oil on the floor.
Next week I have an appointment for the recall. It was hard to find a repair shop which can do it at all here in Germany as the Soltice is not officially present on our market. And although I have no warranty actually, because the car was imported by myself, the garage would do it for free. It is a Cadillac dealer who has done a few differential recalls on Cadillacs which has the same differential as say they.
Some people recommend me not to make the recall, because the risk was too big. After all I have read there could be whine or clunk after that. There is also the risk that they damage the car when lifting it up. And finally there is no guarantee that the differential will be leakproof after that. So it could become a never ending story.
Not doing the recall would mean to check the fluid level from time to time and fill it up if needed. I could live with that. On the other hand it was nice to have the problem fixed, even for free which I didn't expected initially. But this could turn out as a nightmare.
So the question goes out to all who have done the recall: Would you do it again???
I had mine done before the recall was official. The differential was leaking, so I took it in and they fixed it no charge. Got the recall notice several months later. I would do it if it is leaking, that can't in any way be good.

When I took my car in for service I was told I had to have the recall done. Since this was done my alignment is off and the car pulls to the left. From what I was told and have read the alignment should not have been affected but it did. Other than the chunk of paint they took out of the drivers door and the straches on the drivers side decklid on the hump everything is okay.

Thanks for your input. I guess I will risk it and bring the car to the dealer. They get lifting instructions and we will inspect the car closely before so that there won't be any discussion about dents, scratches and stuff afterwards. Also we will do a test drive to clarify that there was no whine or clunk. Hope they are cooperative.
Till then I enjoy an intact and virgin car, maybe for the last time.
Do they have "the tool"? There is some special tool that I believe is unique to the Solstice they need to do the job. I had my rear seal replaced at 15K. When it was done I remember them talkng about the tool, and how they had to locate it as this was their first rear seal replacement on a Sol. They did a great job. I've had no problem since. I have over 31k on the car now. I have not done the recall as it's not leaking. I had my car at the dealer last month for my yearly NY state safety inpection. They checked to see if it was leaking. Being that it was not, they did not "require" me to have the recall done.

Really I'm not sure, I was hoping somebody would jump in with the info. I know they needed it to do a seal replacement correctly. I'm assuming they would need it to do the recall work, but I could be wrong.

My car was fine before the recall too. I was hesitant but figured I still have a lot of warrenty left. That being said its still fine after the recall. Take it in.
Thanks for your replies. I can report that the story got a happy end. I took in the car last Thursday morning for the recall. About 4 hours later I could pick it up already. The dealer explained the main aspects of the recall work and even mentioned that they used the limited slip additive. Then I inspected the car: no dents, no scratches, no body damage from lifting. At the underneath I could see the redesigned pinion flange. On the way back home I didn't notice any new sounds like whine or clunk. After 3 days the differential is still completely dry. So I would say they have done their work perfectly. It is good to know that there are a few dealers out there who are willing and have the ability to do the work right.
And if that wasn't enough the dealer arranged a test drive with another car they sell, a Lotus Exige S2. Loking forward to that...

Cool, JayBee. I didn't even notice this was one of your threads until just now. Glad everything came out OK. You made the right choice, I think. Better to start off with a seal replacement instead of letting it go and losing the whole differential. Hopefully you never have to do that, but at least now you can show that you weren't neglecting it if you DO need to try and get more work done. Sounds like you have a good dealer as well.
I had a not so good experience at an Opel/Cadillac/Corvette dealer in Homburg last week. But that wasn't with my GXP. It's still in the states, so you probably DO still have the only GXP in Germany...
