<------ NOOB ALERT

i'll just keep my mouth shut

my biggest complaint with the Sky is that i don't really feel like i have a lot of power when i drop into 4th at 70 or 80mph to pull past someone. that's what i really want. all the grunt in the car is under 50mph. but that's just what it feels like to me

I feel the exact same way. The stocker is great for mountain driving at low revs and some around town point and squirt but with a larger turbo, a simple downshift would give me the same grunt PLUS serious pull on the freeway (where I spend the vast majority of my driving).

I got to drive a turbo'd 2.4L a little while ago and it was pretty close to what I'm looking for in my car. I just wish I had the funds to make it happen sooner but I'm finding that patience seems to work in my favor.

i think someone needs to go for a ride in my car. dropping to third at about 70 makes the steering wheel feel awefully light with that gt35 on there ....

In about a week, I am planning on sending a turbo up to BTF for the new compressor. Hopefully it will work with my BSR tune without the surging issue. Any word on reworking to eliminate the problem? I like this option as I am trying to stay as stock looking as possible but want more on the top like everyone else has been saying.

Like I said in the PM, the best thing for you to do would be to sell the BSR for HPT.

OTher than that there is a possibility your car might avoid the compressor surge window if your supporting mods are there. Lil'goats logs suggest that his car would avoid the surge window.

The other thing you could do is just take a thread or two adjustment out of the wastegate if you encounter surge. you only need 19psi to hit 390hp @7200rpm, so your powerband will be flatter, smoother, and pull longer.

BTF:

I've missed a lot of this thread due to some other commitments, but would it help to see some 3rd gear (cat, exhaust, Westers and intake) runs from my car, let me know.

When you get it unraveled, I will do the upgrade.

No prob darin, here's the skinny:

I have looked at many logs from cars that are full-boogie(intake exhasut, catless DP, intercooler etc).
It would appear that the vehicles with supporting mods would just barely clip surge or possibly circumvent it all together.

If your particular car happens to touch the surgeline, the solution is to go into the tune and back the boost down in the midrange.

Or you can just "set it and forget it" lol at 19psi and turn 7400rpm.
High pressure will max out the compressor sooner in the RPM band, but still make the same ponies.
If you wanna look stock and make 400hp, this is the "penalty" we pay.
If I machined a reflow into the housing it would cost us some of the eff and flow we went to this wheel for in the first place.

So the surge problem is due to lack of flow through stock components? What would be the parameter to check on a log to tell if you are likely to surge or not?

Bald, will you be able to test this with just an exhaust to see if the surge still exists?

That sure makes sense as I threw another code today in 3rd gear at 3800rpm doing 61 mph.
That is all the "foreigner" with the PS 2 could read.
Then this schmuck tells me the CAI is the problem and it has to go back to stock to continue diagnosing LOW BOOST PRESSURE.
Sh!t for branz!
I know what happened EIGHTY SEVEN OCTANE was all I could get out of the COLONIAL PIPELINE and I got in it an me boy got GAS
Ok this means ditch the SOLO and low back pressure also because this is why there is a
high flow COLD AIR INTAKE
Then he wants to test drive me SLY with the TOOL
Ok fine I'll go with you.
No you can't go
NUH UH, my car my rules

I know what happened EIGHTY SEVEN OCTANE was all I could get out of the COLONIAL PIPELINE and I got in it an me boy got GAS
ECM dialed back boost?

This GOOBER HEAD knew nothing about cars.

I call back form the hotel and bitch slap the VP, son of the owner.

At least I know from their farts guy where there are 13 ECM's

yes, i can drop the pipe after the cat on the dyno.

you will see if surge exists by simply watching boost and listening. it will rapidly oscillate in a narrow rpm band.

Just an idea since I have to souce one for LV, who would pay $35-40 for a shiny billet BOV cover?

possibly even adjustable spring tension?

If I had them tomorrow who would step right up and order?

Having BSR in the past, I will tell you that it is not possible to sell it. BSR sets it specific to your VIN, and they do NOT reprogram it for another car if you sell it. I was lucky that I was able to return mine and get a refund because I was having issues with that tune and some of the mods I had. It took months for them to agree to take it back, and it was with the help of a vendor on here. Basically, BSR told me that I would have to take the loss if I didn't want to use it anymore.
