I opened it up this morning- Now THAT'S an example of a nice core. That turbo is in Top shape!
I'll get it going on ASAP. Your beatup turbo is on it's way as well.
What are balance shaft blanks, what are drawbacks and what is it about stock balance shafts that would cause an RPM limitation?
Thanks!
Russ
The neutral balance shafts are in the GMPP catalog. The stock ones are not capable of sustaining that rpm and fly apart.
Remember, a COUNTERbalance shaft does that, cause a deliberate imbalance in the engine block to counteract the 2ndary forces created by an inline 4cyl.
They are cast and will "G out" under high enough sustained rpm.
Im going thru the removal of a set right now in a H22A4 for my buddy. You only notice the additional vibes at idle, off idle and this little window at 3200.
there is also a company somewhere, the name escapes me at the moment, that makes balance shaft delete kits for the ecos, not just blanks. i have the blanks from gmpp, they are just a solid slug of steel machined into tolerance, they still have a substantial mass. the delete kit that is out there should get rid of a good chunk of rotating mass as well. i beleive the delete kit is a set of press in sleeves to block the oiling holes, and just the end of the stock balance shaft machined off so that the front end of the shaft sits in the first bore and the gear can still turn in place on the water pump chain. should be fairly simple to make. hint hint
OMFG are my arms and legs sore.
First I had to suck out 260 cu/ft of water 12 gal at a time with my wet dry vac. (including a 20ft haul to dump, each round) So that's what 260x7.5gal=1950 gal! /12= 162 trips!
Then pulled and pushed 4 yards of 5000psi concrete w/mesh around for 2 hours.
a little nap then some more bullfloating and it's done.
once this pad cures I have to set the dyno roll into the hole. then 3 courses of block around it, then backfill with washed stone (for drainage to the sumppump), then pour a 15yard slab (24x33) for the main floor of the new shop addition.
Then I'll have a total of 1500sq/ft on the main floor and 1171 on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
Pretty much not enough, but it's all I can afford right now.
BTF,
I am pretty sure the larger wheel mod will help your bank account.

LV, your turbo is all done except swainttech. Even as nice as that turbo was it still had an ugly looking thrust bearing and some scoring in the shaft. My rebuild guy told me it looked like oil contamination to him, as though some small amount of debris went thru the oil galley.. I had it rebuilt using all new BW parts and had the turbine shaft ground 0.0050".
I'll be giving you a helluva deal on the rebuild since I feel for you on that last turbo, and your trying to get this ball rolling for everyone.
