Did you buy your GXP based upon how others, especially media, viewed the looks of the car or did you walk in with your own eyes open and choose this car over something else. Yes, you made a conscious decision to purchase. And that is what it takes, one car at a time, people who like the looks of one over another. The Solstice look, IMHO, is not dtaed but timeless, like a classic 'vette, and will at some point progress into what? I hope not from Z3 to Z4 (one such roadster that IMO got uglier)
Lucille Ball started in "the business" as a showgirl, certainly someone else agreed with her looks. She dressed herself down in her comedic roles to make the audience feel that she really was the "girl from West Jamestown, NY" (actually Lakewood)
Neither acheiftain. In answer to your question regarding the Solstice, I got a first hand look at the 2002 NAIAS in Detroit and I loved it at first sight. When told the price, I suggested to the GM executive at the black tie preshow event, that I'd write them a check for full expected price right then and they could keep the interest. It was that simple to me. Now, I look at my GXP and see a slightly--very slightly--different car than that hand built showcar. But, it is true to the original concept in just about every way. The front end of the base is cleaner to me than the GXP, but I still LOVE the looks of my GXP over any other vehicle I have owned, save my E31 BMW 850ci. That I can say this is a good thing about GM and Pontiac allow von H to have his styling way with the car. I didn't really make a conscious decision to purchase, just like the first time I had sex. It was a matter of being totally enamored and in love with the car and wanting it, same as that "first time". I was no more likely to turn that girl down, the Solstice down, as I was any thing else that I had lusted after and was available to me.
Now, we agree that to us, the Solstice is a timeless and classic design. To me, the current C6 is not classic nor the C4 or C5. Others have their opinion and feel that they are. They are beautiful Vettes however, not classic to me in any sense of the meaning of the word classic--TO ME. Now, some feel like I do regarding the C4, C5, C6, that the Solstice is in no way classic and it has dated lines. They are wrong, again, ---TO ME and YOU. But they have their opinion, and while I disagree with it, I have to respect it. The current Mercedes Benz design does not appeal to me, but the Audi and BMW lines do appeal to me. The Z3 is better looking than the Z4, again to me. The MX-5 and S-2000 are not as appealing to me as the Solstice, but again, I like raspberry sherbet ice cream and some like chocolate or vanilla ice cream. In this case, can't we all just agree----that looks are subjective. Again, my Lucille Ball analogy. Also, I found Joan Rivers to have a crazy kinda sexiness to me in her younger days. Kinda weird, but I did when I was a kid and in high school too. That is subjective taste if you will...

In a perfect world we might find a car that EVERYBODY (us included) thinks is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and that NOBODY but us has. Not a very tenable situation.
What I have instead is a car I absolutely love to drive and I love to look at....as far as "everybody" goes, it's nice for them to oogle over the car, but I'll still be oogling long after they stop. Had it since May, driven it 7500 miles, and I still look for excuses to drive it, and still have the perma-grin...in fact I'd say the grin is growin'.......that luster isn't fadin' one bit!

To YOU...Lot's of us here feel same. But, try telling a 350Z owner or a Boxster owner that they don't feel the EXACT SAME way that you do...visit just about any sports car owners internet based forum and you'll hear the exact same thing. Permagrin is not a new term coined here.

But I certainly don't care much what MSN thinks about Sols or anything else for that matter!

I've never placed good looks as a requirement for buying a car and, consequently, I've owned some ugly cars. The Solstice is the first publicly acknowledged good looking car I've owned and I never tire of driving or looking at. A coupld of weeks ago, my wife and I drove over to Malibu to eat at this restaurant my friend told me about. We had just gotten off the freeway and was stopped at a light. The other cars at the light were various Porsche 911's, Audi's, a couple of Bentley Continental's, BMW's, a jet black Ford GT, and a Ferrari F430 Spyder. I've been in situations like this before in my other cars and felt out of place but that day I did not. There were some stores to the right of me with people checking out my car as they walked through the parking lot. It made me feel good and I don't normally get off on that kind of thing.
And, I can respect your opinion that you feel that is "flat out one of the best darn looking cars that has EVER been made." Problem is, that is but your opinion. Reality speaking, most folks who bought a particular sports car will have loyalties to its looks...Nissan 350Z owners love their Zs, and so on and so forth. The opinion of a writer here or there will not sway my belief in what is good looking. .
You are sooo right Stevie. A V-8 Vantage, DBS or Gallardo is just a better design in the OPINION of its owner. An MX-5 or Z-4 is equally attractive and stylish in your bizarre world.
Hmm, I wonder why they even have classic car shows at Pebble Beach?

Well, some of us feel it might be a "lookit me, I'm rich!" session

Dude, here we go again. NO one here is talking about design, we are talking about the perception of a car being good looking or not. You missed that. You miss alot. Glad I'm not in need of you for legal counsel.
To the person who bought a Z4 or MX-5, they may actually feel that their car is most attractive for their taste. Again, you miss that. A lot of folks on internet based forums have dissed the looks of the Solstice. Some calling it even dated. While I disagree, it is their right to feel whatever they wish to feel about the looks of a given car. Comparing a Solstice to a Ferrari, which you have done, to an Aston-Martin, or Lamborghini is just your way of trying to make your purchase/(investment for retirement in your case), seem better for you. That's called owner insecurity, and you display it well.
