Anyone read this on MSN.com ??? "Sports-car fans were all atwitter when Pontiac delivered the sexy Solstice intact from the show scene. Its daring looks, small size, two seats and drop-top sent all the right messages. We finally had an American machine to compete in the rational sports-car class dominated by Mazda's iconic Miata. Well, not really. Pontiac tried hard, much to their credit, but the reality is GM delivered a sports car that's more sporty than sport, thanks to oatmeal power and a total aversion to storage space"
This article concerned vehicles that were hot when introduced but not anymore. The list mentioned Hummers, PT cruisers, New VW bug etc.
Has the bloom faded from the rose?
Personally I think the list went a bit overboard. Perhaps the buying the frenzy is over, but that was to be expected with any new to market car.
In regards in the H2, there sales are down no doubt just look at gas prices and yep they are probably not the flavor of the month any more. I'm a H3 can't afford a H2, but with those that have them in our MI clubs that use them for what they are intended for off-roading and to haul gear people they are still very popular....and I doubt that will change. BTW the H1 is as well.
I suspect that will be the way for the Solstice as well. Lots of people probably flocked to it because it looked different and for no other reason that it was new and exclusive. For people that really love cars I think they will remain 'hot' for sometime to come.
And please Oatmeal power..please...I'm always up for more power but jeeze.
And the Mustang always hot...if you want to go by sales but if you really are a car guy you can't tell me the hatch back Mustang that was out when I was growing up was a 'hot' car.
Oatmeal power? Ouch! I am guesing Mr. Wilson never mashed the skinny pedal of a GXP

This is a retread and rehash of other writers who came almost 2 years ago in regards to the base Solstice. This is not true of the more performance oriented GXP. I happened to agree with them however, that the base Solstice generated a lot of hyperbole on the sports car scene that has begun to die out. That there are bashers for the styling of the Solstice would be a given after more of these "rare" cars were more readily seen. Now that we have 3 MYs of Solstices, two distinct models, and even 2 distinct cousins of models in the Sky, I think demand and hyperbole are dropping. Not so much on the GXP, but definitely on the base Sol where locally, a few 2007s were on lots with discounts below MSRP. GM is even touting a $1000 "rebate"/incentive.

Doesn't matter one iota to me. I bought the car to please myself, not to worry what others think. Plenty of power, great handling, permagrin and, it's the closest I'll ever get to my favorite D-Type Jag!

I totally agree with you.... get behind the wheel of the GXP and you will feel the power.....

If I cared about that crap, god knows what I would be driving. This is flat out one of the best
darn looking cars that has EVER been made. PERIOD!
And, I can respect your opinion that you feel that is "flat out one of the best darn looking cars that has EVER been made." Problem is, that is but your opinion. True that, to me, it is very nice looking. Better looking to me than an MX-5 or a Sky or Honda S2000. But, that is my OPINION. Reality speaking, most folks who bought a particular sports car will have loyalties to its looks...Nissan 350Z owners love their Zs, and so on and so forth. The opinion of a writer here or there will not sway my belief in what is good looking. I still to this day think that the comedienne Lucille Ball was beautiful, but again, that was my opinion. I also think that we are entitled to that, but that is all it gets us---an opinion. Looks are subjective. That is the point. On one site recently visited, owners were ripping the "dated" and "sorry" lines of the Solstice. I could not have disagreed more, but it is their opinion.

Op/Ed articles are just that. Some guy says he doesn't like a car, and it's online for people to read. Just because it's an article somebody typed up, doesn't mean it's worth anything. So there's an online article
Big deal. Everybody is online, and last time I checked, most people were flippin idiots. What do you care what some guy with a PC thinks about your car? What kind of authority does MSN have about what you like or not, or what's cool or not? Is your Sol or GXP your car, or a fashion accessory? Seriously folks, why even spend a second thinking about this person's opinion? "What's hot, what's not"? What kind of mindset is that, even? Is anyone actually worried that their car isn't trendy anymore? Does the E! channel really have that much influence??
Hokey smokes, I have had the same car for 18 years, and it was 19 years old when I bought it. You know how many people comment on it? Everyone. They all love it, and it's a tired old 38 year old design
If I cared about that crap, god knows what I would be driving. This is flat out one of the best
darn looking cars that has EVER been made. PERIOD!
Who cares what somebody else thinks about your car? I would like a little more power sure but, if it really mattered that much, I would've bought a GXP or a Boxster. Can I exceed the speed limit ? You bet your a$$ I can. As fast as a Vette can? No but, 0-60 in 4 seconds is hard to do in city traffic anyway. What our cars (N/A or turbo charged) can do faster than a 'Vette is turn someones head. 'Nuf said.

The car is one for a niche market, Only a select few want a roadster , fact is the car is not the most practical, and the way practical sells car's its obvious practical is more imprtant then sporty/fun.
Plus.... You cant be a 300 lbs solstice driver.. You cant really be bigger then 6'1 so theres sales that are lost because not everyone can fit in the car..
Besides who cares what some liberal journalist writes? The car is cool.. I went to a classis car show the ONLY car I thought had better lines then the sol was this CHERRY 59 corvette.
Hang on to your sol's they havent made that many and i promise the day will come when we see them on garret-jackson going for 100k.. Too bad thats probally 40 years away.
The classic curvy sports car lines this car has nearly guarantee's collectability
