Ok believe it or not there is a magazine that caters to mold makers (I make golf ball molds),and yes I get it . Well I thought you might like to know how they make the body panels for our cars.

Thats cool, my company makes stainless steel braided hose, starts as a thin wall tube, than through the magic of much less residual stress hydroforming, out it comes as flexible metal hose. Its actually an amazing concept which is why our hose is the best in the US. I guess the frame rails are also hydroformed.

I noted that the last page notes that "GM uses hydroforming on the Pontiac Grand Prix GXP and the Sky."

Must be a typo and they meant the Pontiac Solstice GXP and Sky.

Automatic, AC, Leather Seating, 6 CD Changer, Monsoon sound, XM radio, Sport Metallic Pedals, did I mention Automatic.

Since my better half doesn't drive stick ... tis better to get an automatic GXP than no GXP at all.

It's actually not a typo. That model didn't last very long because it didn't sell very well.

A couple weeks ago I saw an episode of Modern Marvels on [H] during dinner - while it wasn't the Solstice they did have a good section on hydroforming and showed the equipment in operation at an unnamed GM plant. Those were exceptionally large forms, too. Kinda made me want to put a coin in there one day and see what happens.
