I feel the same way, but for different reason... when I was first getting interested in cars, it was my friend's '68 GTO that caught me. The good times we spent fixing it up and taking it to shows after staying up all night to get it ready will always be remembered. When it was time for me to buy my first new vehicle, I went to Pontiac. When that car wasn't doing ti for me anymore, I went to the dealership and bought a Solstice without even looking at or driving anything else they had on the lot. I'm going to miss Pontiac and really don't know what I'm going to do next time I need a vehicle. My Solstice is my daily driver and I know it's not going to last forever. There really isn't anything else out there that excites me for less than $60,000, and I don't see myself ever forking out that much for a vehicle.

What I don't get is why they are keeping GMC. GMC's area already rebadged Chevy trucks. And for the commercial truck line, people probably wouldn't care if it was a Chevy or a GMC.
From what I am seeing, that may happen. No GMC badge, just a corp name like MAN as in Maschinenfabrik Augsburg Nürnberg AG.
Chevy could wind up truck/SUV only, dayum!
You think duckSpeak is confusing, try Barbarian, uh, uh German
I was reluctant to sell my 2006 vin#3231 but decided to go for the 2008 GXP. Will I be sorry? Nope, never planned on buying a collectable. The GXP is so much more fun to drive.
Here is another thought . . . . . Our Supporting Vendors will likely develop little more.
This is the unfortunate truth - unless the Sol continues to do well and create a following. I guess part of that depends on the final production numbers as well. My SRT-4 had a good aftermarket and new parts are still being developed despite the short run but I am guessing the 24,000 SRT-4's outnumber the Sol's by a fair bit
The turbo 'balt shows promise for at least some parts i would think

One positive, if there is one, If GM can avoid bankrupcy by killing Pontiac, our 5 year 100k mile warranty will should be good. If GM kept Pontiac, but went bankrupt, our warranties would be one of the first things to go. In my way of thinking, a car with a warranty is worth more than one without. Don't get me wrong, I hate to see Pontiac go away, but I try to look on the bright side.

I personally believe the best thing for GM would have been to go into bankruptcy. This would have allowed them to have the upper hand with the union contracts and consolidate all liabilities. They would have been able to come out much stronger. It was the administration which prevented GM from filing bankruptcy. You can guess why! I really don’t believe that GM would have given up on warranties if they filed bankruptcy as it would have severely hurt future sales.

Actually, they've produced over 50,000 Sols so far.
Well, I,m an old dude from the day who didn't see this coming, instead of dumping Buick first. The first car I could afford and the love of my life in high school was a 69 Pontiac Rally Sport Lemans. Man would it light 'em up! I have collected numerous "Foreign" (Not Japanese) sportscars, but I have always bought American and always been a GM man. I scanned the networks today, to follow Fact vs Fiction. I knew before 3 p.m. that, GM went on the record saying our Pontiac's will become history by 2010. There are other post location here saying the same thing as my first thought, get rid of Buick. I know deep down that is not going to happen. Buick makes all the grey hairs, (No Offense) I'm one kinda, warm & fuzzy. In other words, I think GM is clinging to the metered sales over the years and age group of the Buick buyers (Predictible). I would hope as I read, at the other site, Bye Bye Pontiac, I think, maybe GM is just going with the flow to get that Government assist. I'm keeping my Solstice unless I can find and trade for the Coupe asap. I have been running a statewide search and have not found a dealer that has one here. GM also said today that those worried about parts should not worry as it will be 10 - 15 years before there won't be parts. It is a sad day! On another note though, you guys see the video during all the GM stories today of about 50 Orange Camaro's in a line heading thru Texas? If you missed it, you will probably see a replay as GM is going to continue to be in the news frequently until they either reorganize or go Bankrupt.
The only positive note for me today was some incredible luck w/re to maintaining my Solstice. I actually obtained a set of the GM Shop CD /DVD work manual. It is my most valued possession as of right now. Those of you out there that have not seen a 2.0 Turbo or the 2.4 motor and all it's moving parts, seals and components are going to freak out at the complicity of this little VVT Motor, though the Manual transmission is fairly straight forward as far as Manual Tranny's go. Hang in there folks, all the rats havn't abandoned ship yet.
Picture a brighter future (They brought back the Camaro!)
OK, GM needs to do what it needs to do right now to continue to exist. It has two paths going forward....1) Continue to die or 2) Grow.
It can't be stagnant...that is equal to failing.
So, if it grows....and becomes much leaner and more efficient, they could bring back better cars for us enthusiasts! Just think if Buick expands to include a sport sedan...and then that sedan spawns a coupe...and that coupe generates a convertible.
It's not all bad...these are really bad times. We'll get through it...along with some prozac!
