Those of us who went on the plant tour know the level of effort to get the boxwood road plant up and running and can't imagine how moving it would be cost effective ...

Information made public today in a UAW document summary of the new contract, shows Solstice and Sky production in Wilmington through 2012 (which appears to be the time frame of the new contract).

Maybe Bowling Green, Ky. will be the home of the new Sting Ray?.

Link to said document: UAW Terms (page 11). Looks like C7 starts 2012...
guess i put my foot in my own mouth, did a google search and found this, Tennessean.com Sept 28 2007,
Eldson Renaud, head of UAW local 2164 said production of the pontiac solstice, saturn sky, and the opel roadsters will move from Wilmington to his plant leaving Wilmingtons future in doubt. UAW summary shows no new products for the Wilmingtons future after 2012 and for the Lake Orion plant that builds the G6

One way of looking at it would be, the contract is for 4 years, expiring in 2011 just after the start of many 2012 model year production. There would be no need for GM to "commit" to product plans past that.

This was part of a news story about the contract posted on Yahoo about 20 minutes ago: "And the document says GM plans to transfer the Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice roadster production from Wilmington, Del., to Bowling Green, Ky., after 2011."

So now lets start the rumor that as of 2012, the Solstice and Sky fully replace the Corvette which will be ushered off into oblivion as hydroforming fiberglass has an impractical side. Look on the bright side, if you buyt a 'vette you can elect to pay a little extra and pick it up at teh museum. Maybe the same will happen with the Kappas. Look on the other bright sides, production is guaranteed through 2012 and beyond.

No, I do not work for GM or any subsidiary or supplier.
I still think the Solstice will be put on the Alpha platform and possibly move to Ohio.
There's no *think* about that... at least not on the question about the Alpha platform. That's going to happen... and where, oh where is the Alpha platform going to be made at? Hmm...
In this morning's USA TODAY, on Page 1 of the Money section, James R. Healy writes:
Pontiac Solstice and similar Saturn Sky two-seat sports cars could be discontinued in 2012. The Wilmington, Del., factory that builds them has no products scheduled after that. Production could be shifted elswhere, or GM could change its mind.
The article, headlined "UAW contract provides glimpse of GM product plans" also talks about the Volt, which is now scheduled for production at the Hamtramck, Mich. plant in three years.

Gee, I had a Sting Ray growing up, but it was a one-seater.
