News Week Mag has an article on the ten most fuel efficient cars in the us.
The Miata was ten at 22 city and 27 Highway. Hmmmmm The Solstice is better but American! Ther are thre or four american cars that equal or surpass the all Japanese cast of fuel efficient cars but hell, we shouldn't cloud the issue with fact. We all know how far left News Week mag is and it seems to be the agenda of the day for the liberal print media is to shun american products and for that matter America itself........

They could be using the EPA Fuel Economy Guide, where the MX-5 Miata has higher combined gas mileage ratings than the Solstice.

If you look up the value, it is averaged off of user inputs - "1" and that one person reported 23 mpg. Register to the https://www.fueleconomy.gov web site and add a vehicle to the garage. Share your MPG and that will affect future reports. There was also only 1 Miata input that had 29 mpg.

.................................User MPG..........................EPA MPG
............................Average Range...............Comb City Hwy
2008 Solstice............29.5.........NA............... ....21.....19....26
No. of Vehicles: 1
2007 Solstice............23.3..........NA.............. .....22.....19....28
No. of Vehicles: 1
2006 Solstice............24.7......17 - 32................21.....17....26

Mine is one of the 2006 Solstice and has 65 entries. The mileage matches the totals...could be I am the only one still putting in the numbers every time I fill up. Either that or we are all consistent.

I inputed mine and then went back and it still didn't show. Another F-d up web site that uses user inputs but doesn't reflect the actual results so the data is skewed, they must be Miata friendly. I average 33 mpg and I don't see mine in the list today.

well louart, if you wanted to ruin a great post that's the way to do it

do me a favor, keep politics in the political section or off the board OK?

the media hasn't been liberal since Reagan repealed the fairness doctrine and allowed media to consolidate, in case you didn't know it, it's corporate owned and has a corporate agenda, and when there was a fairness doctrine it wasn't "liberal" either (unless you think facts have a liberal bias)

where once the media was owned locally by legions of people and companies, now owned by 5 corporations...murdoch being one of them, oh how liberal, oh woe is us!

here's something for the wing nuts that believe the media when they make believe they themselves are "oh so liberal", (saying it as if it;s a bad thing no less);

[news flash]!

that's the media telling you the media is liberal! (oh surprise of all surprises)

like the wolf in sheep's clothing, the midnless trick works on sheep and little children...and oh, some adults as well...those that are desperate to believe it

now moderators, feel free to delete my post if the author of this thread cares to edit out his "brilliant" political analysis at the end of what might have been a great post

Have now had a chance to look at the "article" on Newsweek's web site, The Most Fuel Efficient Cars | Newsweek Project Green | Newsweek.com .

It is certainly flawed. There is no description of the criteria behind the choices. Looking at it, the only one that jumps out is the appearance that the car must be sourced from a company headquartered outside the USA. In fairness, even a lot of cars from those manufacturers are off the list. Perhaps there is a sales amount factor to the selection?

It would be nice if Newsweek responded to the many many comments posted about the story and explained themselves. I could find no such information.

Until then it makes Newsweek look really bad, and open to what ever anyone wants to say or post about them.
