Okay, I went through the whole listing and the highest exterior score I found was the Jaguar X-type Wagon at 9.3 - beats the heck outta the whole small affordable sportscar group in looks. Go figure!
OK Grey, I guess you would prefer us all to jump on this thread and agree that Miata's are Sheit huh??
OK - I agree - Miata's are Sheit. I hate the high seating - makes tall drivers heads poke over the windsheild. My wife calls them "Clown cars" 'cause they look like they should be in parades.
Feel better?
Well,King
I didn't say that Miatas were sheit. My wife owned one in '99&'00. At that time..it was really an enjoyable car...fun handling....and unique. After test driving the Z3...we chose the Miata as the better driving experience for us. We found the Miata preferable over what was available at that time.
What I am saying is.....of course...many..or most on a Solstice Forum ARE bias...since they, indeed, did purchase their preferred sportscar. It seems some consider that as only an unfair negative and put themselves in a position of instructing that "remember!" other kinda car owner's opposing viewpoints may be just as valid TO THEM! Well....we ain't them..is we?? I can see the callout of outrageousness if someone brags that they humiliated and smoked a C6 with their new GXP...but if they relate that they disagree with an article that includes a buncha croc(I know...Miata's opinion)on a Solstice forum...why a reprimand..no matter how subtle?
Never a repremand intended from this camp. Just a reality check - that anybody at any time can write any thing. Doesn't need to be factual, within common consensus or even vaugely accepted.
I've got a friend who writes articles for various mags - freelance. She gets paid by the word. Doesn't really care if she agrees with what is stated, as long as she can quote someone else as having said it. The published word need not be credible.
IMHO - virtually everthing printed and broadcast these days has a bias, a hidden agenda or a twist of inaccuracy within it.

Well..here's a story that's accurate.
Parked near a new Vette. Both my buddy and I ex-multi-Vette owners. Walking away...my buddy says.." I'm telling ya..your Solstice sure outstyles that new Vette by far." I smiled in agreement.
Later standing outside talking...the owners(man&wife) walked across the street to the parking lot to get in their Vette. The wife exclaimed...."Look at that, honey!" "Isn't that just gorgeous!" 'What is it??" As they started to walk over to look at the Solstice...he glanced over and noticed my buddy and I watching...then made an abrupt aboutface...and said "Uh...I guess."...."Aren't you going to look at this,Harold?" "Get in the car,Linda!!".
My buddy and I just couldn't stop laughing.......

I wasn't sure until this sentance... however I think your statements are directed at me since "Moderator" appears under my screenname.
There were no reprimands issued. However, yes, I disagree with the notion that everyone who disagrees with the "root for the hometeam viewpoint" is definitely wrong and must be ridiculed. If I see it happening, I will comment on it.
I also disagree with the notion that because this is a Solstice oriented forum, that all discussion must be pro Solstice, and any and all assertions of the Sol's superiority and every other car's inferiority must be allowed unchecked, regardless of how preposterous, should be allowed and comments to the contrary discouraged.
Don't like it? Too bad... so sad... build a bridge and get over it.

I follow must of the threads here and the comparison one's are the ones that get my goat. I totally agree with you here Fforumula88. Think of the liberal media and every newspaper, every major network (save Fox) is so left leaning. Fox, then, offers some balance even though they lean to the right on most issues. That is my take here on the forum in comparison threads. Anything stated that is not pro-Solstice is ripped. Any supporters of a Nissan Z, Miata, Boxster, Z3 or Z4 is ridiculed for purchasing that car. It is sad. It is obvious. It is, at times, so pathetic that it cannot be looked at in any constructive manner. Yet, me move on. I am one of the concensus that the Solstice is better looking than the MX-5. I don't think it is a better car though---it just happens to me a better car for me.

Well..that statement wasn't directed entirely at you.....and what you stated above has little to do with what I posted. Notice...I corrected a member's post inferring that I was looking for agreement that Miatas were shiet. If it bothers you that I may agree more with Gizmo than you...well...then I respectfully suggest that you also follow the advice in your last statement. Moderately..of course. What I can do....is get over you misreading my posts.....

Vettes are more common
Vettes have a longstanding history.
Vettes can be seen by all demographics driving them.
Vettes OFTEN have negative connotations associated with them--gold chain, bejewled, hairy chested, balding, fat, midlife crisis, etc.
Vettes and Solstices do not compete against one another---and are marketed differently.
Solstices are the current rage among GMphiles, and Vettes, the base model, are considered quite common because you see Secretaries, office staff, and a whole lot of folks driving them.
Yet, your "study" above is just one observation. Many would agree the Vette to be more DESIRABLE.

Great. And many could care less what you think of Vettes currently, even despite owning one. What you fail to realize in your closemindedness is that, there happen to myriads of vehicles produced, different variations of sports cars even produced by the same manufacturer, BECAUSE not all of us have the EXACT same taste. That is what you miss out on in your "So What". Sadly, you won't get it, can't get it, and don't see it.

Wasn't directed entirely... which really means that they were at least partially directed.
What I stated has little to do with what you have posted? Lets see. Cliff notes, I alleged you think people should root for the home town team, not offer a balanced opinion because you felt it was being PC, and that it was pandering to other enthusiasts. You disagree? I was referring to your complete body of posts, not just the particular sentance I quoted before. You did post...
BTW, I don't mind if you agree with Gizmo. He said that he felt enough people thought that the Sol looked better that it makes it a fact. I suppose how you read it. I would concede a true fact would be that more people will prefer the Sol's styling to the Miata's. However, if the statement is the Solstice HAS better styling than the Miata... I wonder how you prove that as fact? What data can you contrive from styling to show factual variances that relate to personal opinion? Counting curves in the body? Styling is subjective. It has no empirical data to differentiate it from styling on another vehicle. If you are going to use personal opinions, you generate data but you are really showing a consensus. Such as, maybe 70% of people believe the Sol to have better styling. That doesn't mean the Sol does have better styling for a fact. It means most agree... they are at a consensus. But I digress.

You are right Stevie. The issue here with the appearance of the MX-5/Miata is on the minor end of this scale. Consensus is that the Solstice looks better, by most. There are those who would disagree. However, the cheering section is well into the majority here.
Sometimes, however, the Solstice cheering section borders on the absurd in defending the Solstice.
I may be wrong, but my take on it is that some people feel the need to justify the purchase... sort of an unconscious inferiority complex. They bought the Sol because they really like it, but are sensitive to others feeling other roadsters may be better, or better buys, because deep down some Sol owners may suspect they are correct. (Note to forum, I did not say all or most, but some...). Many did buy this car based on styling, and not necessarily outright performance, practicality, reliability, refinement etc. The Sol is acceptable in all regards, especially considering price point, but certainly is not top in class in all these categories either.
Regardless of the motivation, it can lead to some whopper claims that are just... well... ridiculous. They just don't pass the sniff test. Yet, folks who like those whoppers don't like it when someone with a more balanced viewpoint enters the room. It spoils the feel good atmosphere I suppose.
The shame of it is, there is no reason to have to go to such lengths to defend this car or it's purchase. For the money, it is a terrific choice.
It's just not here either. I see the same thing on the Fiero forum. Folks who want to compare the Fiero to the Solstice, and declare the Fiero the better sports car.
