tomorrow is Pearl Harbor Day..and a special day for wolfdogs

lots of car folks know me in wolfdog rescue...being new to this forum, i thought i would share this with yall

because, it was 5 years ago tomorrow that I got a phone call at work: "Ken... your baby girl is born"

i named her "Keona"..Hawaiian for "God's Gift"... and my home of record is Hawaii....i grew up there.

I brought her home when she was 4 and half weeks old.. bottle fed her..and slept downstairs with her by her crate to bond with her.

She's and F3..only 3 generations removed from the wild.. in the upper left is her dad... a pure British Columbian Wolf..

She's an ambassador now, going with me to functions raising donations for our rescue, going to PetCo, PetsMart..., people stopping in awe, OMG, thats a wolf... of course, i clarify that, "no..its a wolfdog...she's only 80% wolf........" they pet her, the kids pet her..she's a ham.....

I've spent countless hours with her bonding...and the bond she holds with our 3 golden retrievers is unreal..... she's a God send to the wolfdog community... so I wanted to post this i her honor.

so im down here on the computer in my office in the basement..snuck upstairs and took this pic of her:

being the smart cookie she is..she came downstairs shortly to see what i was up too.......

of course.. i had to give her a big hug LOL

My girl folks... I love the goldens...but this is the animal that keeps me ticking .........

Happy Birthday to Keona.... one very special wolfdog.

and you know what? she knows it............

Wolfdogs thanks for the pics! What a beautiful critter, but out here in the state of Washington the wienies don't want us to have such "exotic wild animals" so I'll just have to stick with my golden retriever.

actually..its not your state.. it may be your county:

WASHINGTON

"The wolf, Canis lupus, has been classified as an endangered species by the Fish and Wildlife Commission. Private ownership of a wolf requires proof of legal acquisition, health certificate, proper holding facilities. Wolf Hybrids are not classified as wildlife and therefore do not fall within the regulatory authority of the Department of Fish and Wildlife. This does not mean that local jurisdictions may not regulate or prohibit the possession of these animals. Additionally, other state or local agencies may have regulations that apply to the importation or possession of wolves or wolf hybrids." Possession of wolves or wolf hybrids is prohibited in King County.

Wolfdogs I believe you are correct. King County is supposed to have banned keeping either wolfs or wolf hybrids, though my source is not from any knowledge of the actual statute, but from a neighbor who had several hybrids. They were certainly big beautiful animals and I loved to hear them when my golden and I walked by there on our road.

Happy Birthday, Keona. You sure are beautiful!

I once had a very spirited Alaskan Malamute named Sajorca. I still miss her. Thanks for the story and the pictures.

pretty sure im right too..i work with the Woldog Alliance group and legislation that governs wolfdogs across the nation. in my rescue operation, we have to know all the laws, state and county, we won't place an animal in an illegal environment.

golden...ahh yes... this is our "pack" LOL

Wolfdogs attached is a photo taken while hiking with my eleven year old golden named Cody. He's a great & tireless hiking companion. We're on a favorite trail near our home.
