Post Counts & Who is Viewing the Thread

Hey Mods / Admins,

Why do we not have these features? Most forums have these basic options, I was just visiting SkyRoadster and thought: "Wait a second, why don't we have these features?"

So let me ask... Could we please implement these features? I enjoy seeing people's post count, and I'm always interested in who is viewing the thread (to see if its worth waiting to refresh for new posts).

Post counts were removed a couple of years ago to reduce the amount of 'post whore' posting that was occurring to simply drive up the members post count. It is still available on the user's profile, along with posts not counting in a few of the forums - for example: the Wild West.

Who is viewing the thread ... Skyroadster doesn't have that available either so I'm not sure what you are speaking of. The option to see who is online and what they are viewing is still available in the 'Quick Links' dropdown menu.

The "post whore" posting took place in Dec 2005 and Jan 2006, and yes, I was involved in that. However, the post count was removed after Aug 2006, many months after all such activity ended. So we need a better reason than that!

We still have posters that will merely post a 'minimal' response to a topic .. such as to get the required characters. This is where the 'post count' is insignificant and serves no real purpose.

I, personally, do not have any issue with the post count as that to me does not reflect the posters 'knowledge' level or lack thereof - rather, the content of their posting history does.

If one is curious as to the length of time a poster has been on the forum all you need to do is click on that userID and you can find that information.

Maybe only give post count to replies with more than XX characters ???
Just like you have to type 10 characters for the message to go through, why not bump up MINIMUM TO RECIEVE A POST COUNT?

100 characters???? 150 characters ???

THIS REPLY is over 200 characters and should count as a post count

That is a very good point. Make it a 50 character minimum! I think at the minimum if we had the "who else is viewing the thread option" that would be cool. It won't change how I feel either way about the forum, but I thought it'd be nice.

Post count can be turned on and off by forum subsection, but not by post count itself. Not even by usergroup.

If everyone ignored the noobs with 2 posts they may never get a warm fuzzy feeling. Join date may help you determine who is new and who is not.

Yeah, that's a big help.

Saw a post yesterday from a guy, it's his second post ever. The first post was in April 2007.

If the owner of this forum had any sense, he'd bring back the post count and the members list.
