I'm in the waiting mode too. My car was finished 5/13/09 and shipped 6/19/09. Still no car. My dealers had somebody "walk the lot", and the car is still in Delaware. Another interesting fact is the Pontiac web site is still listing it for sale with a new "summer closeout price". I think my dealer is doing his best, but Pontiac is jacking them around. SD what do you think? This leads to an intersting delimma. What price am I paying for this car???? The new price is within $329.00 which isn't really bothering me as I just want the darn thing. And then when I hear some dealers are bumping the MSRP another $5000.00 to $10,000.00. That scares me. Sounds like poor business ethics on the part of GM. I'm not holding my dealership accountable on this one.

The transportation systems have taken a hit this past year plus, as has many auto related industries. The reduced production has weakened the system. There have been turnovers in companies. Harder to plan efficient loading.

The cars are shipped by rail to many parts of the country. Not straight line between points. Many rail yards are combined with other GM production facilities or near them. So with extended plant downtimes, transit times can be effected.

So regular rules and times do not apply. Information is harder to get and what is available can be compromised.

Right now, #447 is showing, in the dealership locator system, as event code #4300-delivered to an intermidiate point.

Since it was ordered as a Retail Stock order and dealerships can not change that status. It will show through the locator system, as ab available for sale car would.

With the introduction of the Summer sales event, the Pontiac Summer Closeout, all dealership websites provided by GM were modified to show the Summer event pricing less any consumer rebate available.

A dealership could remove the pricing from any vehicle that they had modified with after-market equipment, but it had to been done by July 7th.

If a dealership web site is showing the Summer event pricing, than great chance they are participating. So any Pontiac sold would be at the Supplier Discount Price shown in the car's invoice. This is the same price as the Graduate/Military/Credit Union programs.

If a dealership had made an agreement previously to sell below this price, they could still deliver at the lower price and be in compliance with the program guidelines.

Would think that you should be receiving the Summer event pricing.

Finally is a dealership is open to allowing a buyer to pay more than the MSRP on the window sticker, how is that a reflection on GM? (Without paragraphs, I am assuming those two thoughts where the ones you intended to be conected.) All GM did was make up the number from the available numbers 0-9, and print it on the window sticker. They can do nothing about buyers that feel the car is worth more, anymore than they can do about sellers that believe it is worth less.

In fact, it is kind of funny to discuss the relative importance of MSRP during a period when the people that created the MSRP are telling everyone that they should buy/sell for less. Doesn't the Summer event price become the MSRP for 25 days? Of for that matter, doesn't the offer of rebates in effect continue to point out that MSRP is just a make believe number on a piece of paper.

Thanks SD

This is simple to understand (concerning the price of # 447). The Left Hand (GM, the manufacturer) doesn't know what the Right Hand (My dealership) is doing (or more like done). And further more the Right Hand doesn't know what the Left Hand has done with the car. And the Left hand in the meantime is trying to help the Right Hand sell it with a new summer closeout event. Did I get it right?

One more question. Who owns the transportation? GM (Left Hand) or is it a private vendor putting another pair of mitts into this equation?

Thank you in advance for helping us out.

GPC

If I got the question right..............

The whole system is set up, in general, that no one cares about a car until it is in the Right Hand. A Solstice in hand is worth two in transit, I guess is the old saying.

Now take a situation where there are two additional hands, yours, waiting ro get on the steering wheel, the Left Hand has "one hand" tied behind it's back (GM and their issues dejour), and the Right Hand is still working on selling the handful of cars they do hold on to, and we get where you are today.

The Right Hand can't put it's hand on the person that has the information about those that are handling the delivery.

It is also possible that delivery is being held up by the headliner (handliner just doesn't work here) issues that another site member has mentioned.

Just need to put your hands together in prayer, get a grip on yourself, and hang in there and wait it out.

The transist system players are independant companies selected and contracted by GM to handle the delivery for the dealership.

Thanks again SD... I will take your advice about my two hands together in prayer, and wait. I couldn't help myself though..... I did put my dealership in "speed dial" on my cell phone. I'll keep you posted when it arrives. Thanks again. GPC

"A Solstice in hand is worth two in transit, I guess is the old saying."
Famous statement made by SD (cira 2009).

Numbers on transmissions

Now that we know the number of coupes, 1152, do we know how many GXP's vs NA's and number of manual transmissions vs automatic on each type of coupe?

The exact number is not quite known, but GXP Coupes are about 68% of the 1152 coupes, based on the last information I have.

Thanks Flash's owner

Thanks for the info on number of GXP's I have an 07 Solstice GXP that I had to fly to Phoenix and drive back to Tulsa. I only have 4600 miles on it. Never been wet or washed. I now have an 09 Coupe, Mysterious and I am going to need to sell one of them. If anyone looking for a coupe, I have not titled it yet and it has 200 miles on it. I have taken it to car shows. It looks great setting side by side with my Mysterious convertible. If anyone is interested in either one email me at bafairway@yahoo.com

I am selling the convertible for $23,500 or the coupe for $39,500.

With 2010 production now cancelled, it will never be.

The car on display at MECCA III was a 2010 VIN designated Pre-Production build Coupe. It is property of GM, and at this time, based on a post here on site, GM is unsure of it's future. Wilmington assembled about 30 vehicles with 2010 VINs in a mix of models and equipment. There would probably be less than 10 built with the Heritage Edition package, or parts of it.

It is not available for retail sale, and may never be available for retail sale. But if it is, there are a few that are watching for it already.
SD

Last I heard, that coupe is headed for or already at the Heritage Museum in MI. And I am one of those few watching for it....

Do a search for a Pontiac dealer in Davison Michigan. They had an aggressive gxp manual last week.

As I was driving today I saw a Ruby Red, GXP Solstice Coupe with a 5 speed manual transmission and leather seats on a dealer's lot in Canandiagua, NY (near Rochester). I was so surprised I circled back to check it out. The factory sticker is not on the window so I don't know if it has been used as a managers car, etc. There was no price on the window and since I already own a coupe, I didn't hang around to talk to a sales person! It is it is VIN # 1014

Also, these aren't GXP's, but I see from a local dealer's on-line inventory (and verified by the Pontiac web site) that there are 3 coupes on dealers lots in Rochester, NY.
VIN # 003 - White, manual transmission
VIN # 888 - Wicked (Ruby Red), automatic
VIN # 1070 - Wicked (Ruby Red), manual transmission

(Do a "Locate Vehicle" on the Pontiac web site for zip code 14618 to view the window sticker for each vehicle)
