Looks like the dealer I was working with on purchasing a Solstice... has sold it to someone else out from under me. I didn't run right in to see it when I first contacted them and therefore cannot blame them for selling it to someone else really, but I had planned on going in today to talk with them and he informed me it is gone.
So I guess I am forced into still waiting. In a way, that's good, because it allows me to get a closer look at the coupe. However, I am not sure that matters, as I am fairly set on buying a car this spring and of course it won't be available until 2009. It's making a local '05 Vette start to look really good.
Widen your search a little. Even contemplate a one-way flight to Orlando with a break-in (+) drive home. Coggin's lot in Kissimmee is overflowing. (drove by it yesterday)

No, I do not work for GM or any subsidiary or supplier.
I had the exact same issue. On my way home from the dealer I saw another pontiac dealer (that I didn't even know about) and right on the lot was the EXACT solstice I wanted to buy smiling at me. It was as if she called my name.

Hell....if the bodystyle and complete package of the Solstice GXP doesn't outweigh what the Vette has to offer for you 'by far' ....I'd get the Vette for sure. If there is little concern about future costs...insurance,etc.etc... why not the Vette? In my view either are a good bang for the buck.
In my case...my future '07 GXP was parked beside a '07 Vette when I picked it up last June...and signed the papers. I had absolutely no turmoil deciding between the two. In fact...running through my mind was the sleek style of the Solstice sitting right next to the Vette. "To me"...there was no comparison. After owning several older and newer Vettes...the Solstice is what I had been waiting for all along. It would seem to me...that if the Solstice doesn't 'strike' you in a similar way....(the whole package).....then the Vette would sure be more than tempting. I'm lucky..the GXP turbo knocked my socks off...so I didn't have the dilemma of making that kinda choice. There is a big dif....

This dealer in Kissimmee treated me well when I had to have the catalytic converter changed. Wife and I were at D-World and Bella decided to start choking up. The service manager there also owned a Sol at the time and she took good care of us. I did discover later that the teck MAY have (my local dealer is not completely vindicated) lifted the car by the body instead of the lifting pads, but I'm sure they know better now. The break-in run home is a good idea.

I've thought of it, but have a problem with trading in a car under this plan... both from a "valuation" standpoint as dealers generally won't commit on a price until seeing it, and also a time off of work standpoint, because I would have to drive both ways. Would love the drive home though. Still working on it however. This dealer might still be able to locate and get a car too... we haven't gotten that far yet. Still waiting to hear back.

I've always really liked Vette's, but I am more wishy washy about owning one. I could technically afford one, but they are not cheap to drive (example: OE replacement tires from tirerack are nearly $2000 for a set). Plus, they have so much power it seems like overkill. I considered a GTO a couple years back with the 400 HP LS2. Was a fabulous car to drive. What a rocket. However, I really didn't think I wanted that much power on a daily basis either.
I really love the Solstice, have since it appeared in 2002, and have really been aiming to get one. I should have bought one last spring, but decided to prioritize a new DD first... which I now have issues with anyway. That said, a Solstice GXP is my first choice at the moment... but the longer and more frustrating the search goes, the more I start looking around too.

They said it had just sold a couple days prior, and would order me an 08 but would not budge from MSRP. I walked and they really have held to that MSRP. Time has not softened them.
I worked with another dealer, also had an '07, but really wasn't dropping the price much. I thought for what they wanted, I'd rather spend a bit more and get an 08 near invoice (if possible). Especially since this '07 didn't have some things I would prefer.
Current dealer had an '08 optioned near perfect... but apparently no longer has the car. SO much for that.

You have certainly upped the thread title battle with Excelsior.
Keep in mind that you can still order a new 2008 Solstice, just the you want it.
Unless of course you want Deep.

I've been watching your journey for a while. Seems to me that this is an example of paralysis by analysis. The 07's are disappearing. Get'em while you can if price is important. Looking for the perfect car at a steep discount is fraught with difficulty, and compromise is usually inevitable. Either way buying an 07, 08, or 09 each has its own compromises.
I have a love/hate relationship with vettes. I love the car for what is represents and I think it looks great in person. I hate the (public) connotations that owning one often brings to the individual.

I know you want new but the GXP that was or is for sale here for $20K is steal and the mileage was low. I thought it was mean and I think you want RED but for the price, I would get it and then trade it in on 2009 for the coupe. You probably will not loose to much money if any since you start with a 2007 GXP with low miles at $20K.

Actually, it wouldn't have to be new, but I need a couple things. One, has to be an auto (I know I know... but my back is killing me in my stick shift DD... and that is a big reason I am really pushing the search right now). That car is a manual. Also, I have to be a
