Help me choose: 2007 or 2008?

Hi all, this is my first post to this forum and I look forward to joining your community.

I am going to a few dealerships today to purchase a Solstice (in Ontario, Canada).

One dealership is offering a *fully* loaded 2007 dark grey met car for $28899, the list was over $38K (AND they are offering 0% financing on it!)

The other dealerships I'm going to have the 2008 base + auto transmission and a/c but so far aren't dropping the price below $30K. (List is just over $32K) at 0% financing.

I'm not sure of the differences in the solstice between the two years, and for some reason I'm leery about the 2007, and why it's still on the dealer lot.

Any opinions? (Pricing strategies also welcome, although if that's not allowed on this forum, please disregard this)

Thanks!

If the dealer has already done the pinion seal recall, I'd lean towards that one. I'm no fan of the TPMS on the 08's. More crap to go wrong.

2009s are out now, but you can't beat the 0% financing. I'd get the 07. Too bad Canada charges so much for cars. Can you come to the US and buy it and then take it back?

Canadians definitely pay a lot more for cars. I have looked at arguments for buying in both countries, and there are definite pros and cons to both, depending on a number of variables.

I think the 07 is a better deal and the difference between it and an 08 or 09 from a performance or fun factor there is none.

Thanks for the opinions - I just got back from the dealership and bought the 2007, I get it Monday!

I have two questions though (noob questions, I'm sure, but I trust your opinions here)...I declined the extended warranty and all of the rustproofing packages etc...

Is the extended warranty ever a good idea? After I declined she offered another 300 bucks off: a total warranty of 72 months/100000kms for $1542. I will have the car for a long time.

Also, what do you guys do for rustproofing, etc... after you get your new car? What's necessary and what's the best/cheapest way to get it?

Thank you!

Wait! I didn't give you my opinion. No problem. I was going to advise the 2007.

You can buy an extended warranty later on if need be. Keep in mind that you would be paying for something today that does not kick in for 3 years. The only advantage is if you think you will get it, the 0% financing may make it attractive. I don't believe that this extended warranty is bumper to bumper.

IMHO, don't bother with rustproofing. This is from a fellow Canadian. This is way overpriced by the dealer. Do you plan to drive it through the winter? Cars don't rust like they used to. Bad investment!

Hey there!

I'll be driving it in the winter: my last car (olds alero) had a huge rust problem so i'm super-leery of rust.

But I'll take your advice

Undercoating is always a good idea especially in winter, salt has a way of getting in every crack. I think it is money well spent.

Cars are built better with better rust protection now days, if you drive it in the winter, and you are like all other Solstice owners you will not let it stay dirty long Two reasons not to let the dealer rope you into the rust proofing. Besides, if you still want to rust proof, you can get the stuff at your local auto store and put it on a lift and spray it your self. The come in spray cans.

They are correct. Just about anything the dealer offers you , you can do yourself and cheaper later on.

I have an 07 and love it. Now if I could only talk my Girlfriend into buying a matching Coupe
