Tips on Tracking Your Vehicle

FIRST SOME ADVICE TO FORUM MEMBERS: This is only advice, you do not have to do any of this.
If you have not already done so, please go to User CP near the top of any page and complete your Profile and add a Signature. In the Profile indicate your city and state of residence. In the Signature indicate your VIN last 4 digits, color ordered, date delivered to customer if applicable, and whatever else you care to.

This thread is building upon information provided by deluke, WantMySoltice, and gizmo2004, among others.

I've sent emails out to Pontiac, the rail companies, and the carrier companies for information.

This thread gives information to those lucky persons whose order has reached Event Code 4200 Shipped.

You should ask your contact at your dealership which trucking company brings new vehicles to this dealership. Also ask which railroad (if applicable) brings your Solstice to the dealership's area. Find out the address and phone number of the location from which your Solstice will be loaded onto the carrier truck. Make a friend there! Railroad and trucking companies are listed in Post #3 below.

After your Solstice is really shipped, you should call your friend at the trucking company once a week to find out the expected arrival date, more often as the date gets near. Their computer shows the vehicle as it travels by train, including the expected arrival date, updated every so often. If you have the time, you might want to be there on the day of arrival or following day, with your camera, ready to take pictures of your BEAUTIFUL Solstice! Note: you might not be allowed on the property at the railyard, tight security. But you can watch them load your Solstice on the truck carrier and follow it to the dealership.

Before you go to the dealership to pick up your Solstice, here is a link to a thread with tips on the Delivery Process:

6037 Shipped--Dealer sent Owner Checklist

I INVITE ALL FORUM MEMBERS TO POST TO THIS THREAD WITH THEIR HELPFUL HINTS. My favorite expression is:

Forum Members Helping Forum Members. It Just Doesn't Get Any Better Than That!

2000 Accepted by GM
2500 Preferenced
3000 Accepted by Production Control
3100 Available to Sequence
3300 Schedule for Production
3400 Broadcast
3800 Produced
4000 Available to Ship
4104 Bailment Invoice
4b00 Bayed (actually a capital B but it can be mistaken for an eight)

4150 Original Invoice
4200 Shipped
4800 Rail Ramp Unload
4300 Intermediate Delivery

6000 Delivered to Customer

Rail road and carrier companies

Here is the list of railroad companies and trucking companies:

RAILROADS:

Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) DOES NOT TRANSPORT SOLSTICE
www.bnsf.com
Laura Pomerville
(708) 924-6719

Norfolk Southern Corp (NSCorp)
www.nscorp.com

CSX
www.csx.com
This company seems to be the one bringing them from Wilmington to Lordstown, Ohio.
I think they connect with UPRR in St. Louis.

Canadian National
www.cn.ca

Canadian Pacific Railway
www8.cpr.ca

Union Pacific Rail Road
www.uprr.com
This company picks up Solstice in St. Louis and Chicago (Gibson?).
They deliver basicly west of a line from Chicago to New Orleans, but not Minneapolis. And once in Janesville, WI and Fairfax, KS, they lose control of the vehicle to GM (GM's plants in those two places.)

Here's some great info from clamato:

Another Note:

If you purchase your vehicle before it actually arrives, you will no longer be able to pull up the VOEH in VOMS. It will just show up as SOLD in the system.

BUT, once the dealer is notified that it has shipped by the DBC, you can then keep up with it through the appropriate shipping company.

I am still trying to reach someone at each railroad company that might help us in tracking these beautiful cars.

If anyone has any contacts, please PM me. Thanks.

This just came in from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railray:

Mr. Rosenblatt,

Thank you for your e-mail. All General Motors finished vehicle business is under contract to our competitor - the UP Railroad. BNSF does not handle any new GM finished vehicle product.

Please let me know if there is additional information that I may be able to provide.

Sincerely,

Laura Pomerville

Here's an example of how the VOMS report is not up to date like the VOEH report.

VOMS REPORT printed 09/27/05 11:46:04 AM
...Current event = 3800

VOEH REPORT printed 09/27/04 11:47:33 AM
...Event 3800 09/14/05 Produced
...Event 4000 09/16/05 Available to Ship
...Event 4104 09/16/05 Bailment Invoice
...Event 4b00 09/19/05 Bayed
...Event 4106 09/26/05 Release Bailment
...Event 4150 09/26/05 Original Invoice
...Event 4200 09/26/05 Shipped
...Event 4b00 09/26/05 Bayed

Only 1 minute 29 seconds difference between the print-outs,
but SEVEN MORE EVENTS shown on the VOEH.

Last time I'm going to say it:
GET THE VEHICLE ORDER EVENT HISTORY (VOEH) REPORT
DON'T EVEN WORRY ABOUT THE VOMS REPORT

Has anyone found any contacts at any of the railroads yet? It seems to be next to impossible, but I can understand why.

We're not the clients, GM/Pontiac is the client. Oh well, I'm still hoping Pontiac will help us set up a good tracking system.

CSX Contact

I checked out the CSX contact that was listed, thinking that it would be the first to see the vehicle, but it looks like I'm going to need a liitle more information "or patience" before I can track it. Here is my email to him:

Subject: Tracking my vehicle
Your Name: Thomas Bartlett
Your E-mail Address: tombartlett@citlink.net
Your Message: Dear Mr. Watson,

My vehicle, a Pontiac Solstice, was recently manufactured in Wilmington. I was told that your company transports the vehicles that are headed west to St. Louis. I was wondering if you could confirm the date that your company has piked up this vehicle. The VIN is ******6042. Thanks in advance for your help!

Tom

And the response:

Mr. Bartlett,
Please check with GM's Dealer Business Group to inquire about the location of this particular vehicle. CSXT cannot provide this information based on a vin number. If GM's Dealer Business Group can provide CSXT the railcar number our technology will then be able to track the vehicle's location and give GM's Dealer Business Group the information, whom then can provide you the information. CSXT's contractual obligation with GM doers not allow us to give out confidential information on vehicles when ownership has not yet been transferred to the purchasing party.

My dealer says that the next thing he will hear is when it hits the railyard in Richmond. I guess I should just wait at least until the expected date of 12/11 before I start making any noise, he's been great.

Thanks for the GREAT post, BubblePix! It's going to be a monumental task to get information out of CSX. I'm hoping to find some cooperation from Pontiac, if they ever respond to me, to give us a way to track our own vehicles. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.

For those of you that may be shipped by Allied, they have an online tracking site that is for dealers only. My dealer just isn't very much interested in a GMS sale so they have been a bit less than helpful. I'm not really knocking them, that's just the way it is.
Luckly I have a good friend who is a sales manager out of state from me and he is going to register at the Allied site tomorrow and email me the log on data.
Maybe some of you can do the same.
