FIRST SOME ADVICE TO FORUM MEMBERS: This is only advice, you do not have to do any of this.
If you have not already done so, please go to User CP near the top of any page and complete your Profile and add a Signature. In the Profile indicate your city and state of residence. In the Signature indicate your VIN last 4 digits, color ordered, date delivered to customer if applicable, and whatever else you care to.
This thread is building upon information provided by deluke, WantMySoltice, and gizmo2004, among others.
I've sent emails out to Pontiac, the rail companies, and the carrier companies for information.
This thread gives information to those lucky persons whose order has reached Event Code 4200 Shipped.
You should ask your contact at your dealership which trucking company brings new vehicles to this dealership. Also ask which railroad (if applicable) brings your Solstice to the dealership's area. Find out the address and phone number of the location from which your Solstice will be loaded onto the carrier truck. Make a friend there! Railroad and trucking companies are listed in Post #3 below.
After your Solstice is really shipped, you should call your friend at the trucking company once a week to find out the expected arrival date, more often as the date gets near. Their computer shows the vehicle as it travels by train, including the expected arrival date, updated every so often. If you have the time, you might want to be there on the day of arrival or following day, with your camera, ready to take pictures of your BEAUTIFUL Solstice! Note: you might not be allowed on the property at the railyard, tight security. But you can watch them load your Solstice on the truck carrier and follow it to the dealership.

This company picks up Solstice in St. Louis and Chicago (Gibson?).
They deliver basicly west of a line from Chicago to New Orleans, but not Minneapolis. And once in Janesville, WI and Fairfax, KS, they lose control of the vehicle to GM (GM's plants in those two places.)
If you purchase your vehicle before it actually arrives, you will no longer be able to pull up the VOEH in VOMS. It will just show up as SOLD in the system.
BUT, once the dealer is notified that it has shipped by the DBC, you can then keep up with it through the appropriate shipping company.

Has anyone found any contacts at any of the railroads yet? It seems to be next to impossible, but I can understand why.
We're not the clients, GM/Pontiac is the client. Oh well, I'm still hoping Pontiac will help us set up a good tracking system.

I checked out the CSX contact that was listed, thinking that it would be the first to see the vehicle, but it looks like I'm going to need a liitle more information "or patience" before I can track it. Here is my email to him:

Please check with GM's Dealer Business Group to inquire about the location of this particular vehicle. CSXT cannot provide this information based on a vin number. If GM's Dealer Business Group can provide CSXT the railcar number our technology will then be able to track the vehicle's location and give GM's Dealer Business Group the information, whom then can provide you the information. CSXT's contractual obligation with GM doers not allow us to give out confidential information on vehicles when ownership has not yet been transferred to the purchasing party.
