Would you pay 3,750 dollars more for a New 2008 Solstice with 182 miles over a used 2008 solstice with almost 4,000 miles? They both are GXP's with basically the same opitions. The new one has full warranty and the used ones warranty ends in Febuary of 2010. Thanks
New. You don't know how it was driven for those 4,000 miles, and in that situation I would want more than 4 months of warranty coverage. You could get the used one and add an extended warranty, but then you're whittling away at the price difference. You might as well start fresh.

Can't you buy an extended warranty for around $1000?
Depends on the history of both VINs and how many miles your going to put on it. Most kappas are second or third cars and don't get the mileage of a primary car.
You could save another $10,000 by buying a GXP with 25-30K miles for around $20K. Don't wait for Obummer's stimulas check as eight now is a buyers market for convertibles in most geographic regions with winter close by.
4000 dealership miles ??????????? would be some hard miles- just guessin........... =__?__maybe 800 testers ?? lol...doggin it...... is a scary thought
private owner 4000 miles - its still new..lol.......
$3700 is a nice bonus......for mods /tires.......whatever

Your mileage may vary...but for me, hands down, NEW! You know where its been. Also, Feb 10, 2010 is coming up pretty quickly, 3rd party extended warranties can be a bit of an "iffy" thing and finally, you may find that the $3750 might be a bit negotiable.

Do you have the $3,750? If so, new is always more fun, to be the first and only owner of a car you could keep for ever.
If money is a factor, that is a good savings for not much miles. Even if you factor in an extended service plan to level the "warranty" between the two.

DexGXP is well aware of the situation, they were looking at a used GXP with 3,300 miles for $19,500 in July. Who knows may even be the same car this post is about.
With that in mind, not sure the savings will come close to an additional $10,000 by getting a more used car.

Not a factor, as it is no longer available. There are no consumer incentives currently available for the 2008 Pontiac models, Solstice included.

Also don't forget Obama's tax incentive on the State tax you pay on a new car. Depends on your State tax rate, but that can be another $300-400 difference off the cost differential of the new one.

Good catch! I didn't notice it was a 2008. You would certainly know better than I, but this is on the Pontiac website under the terms and conditions of the 0% deal:

OP, if you're planning to finance I'd still go new. Assuming SD is right (and I can't recall him ever being wrong about any Pontiac programs or offers), I'd also see if there are any 2009s around that fit my specs and work up the numbers.
You should also look into the credit union discount. It knocked a bit off the price of my Sky, but it may also not be available.
Whatever you decide, good luck! Don't forget to post pics!

Thanks for all the advice, but I am paying cash so I don't worry about fiancing. I'm sticking with the 2008's because the prices are to good! I'm leaning toward the new one though for the warranty and just because I like the black over the silver anyway.

I don't understand why the warranty run's out on the '08 GXP in Feb with only 4000 miles unless it entered service in Feb of '07 (were any '08 built that early?) I purchased my GXP used with 6000 miles. It was built in June '07, originally purchased in Sept '07 and I bought it in April '08. It is still under full warranty with 23K miles under the 36K or Sept, whichever comes first.

Additional points to think about.
If the used Solstice is not being sold by a GM dealership (for example a Ford dealership), subtract points from it's appeal. Not going to help you in the future.
If the new Solstice is being sold at a dealership that was selected to stay with GM (they will have fresh 2010 Buicks/GMCs on their lot if a traditional Buick/Pontiac/GMC dealership), than add points to it's appeal. Will be building a relationship for future service/parts needs.
If the new Solstice is being sold at a dealership that is being "wound-down", do not add points, but also think do not subtract points. There will be a certain benefit to bing a "free agent" in GM's future that could pay off.
Also on the used Solstice warranty issue, T-Red is on top of their game. 2008 Production would have started in the June/July time frame of the Summer of 2007. First retail delivery or in-service date for company cars woudl have been late Summer 2007 at the earliest. So the earliest the 36 month Bumper-to-Bumper Limited Warranty could expire would be late Summer 2010.
Now it is possible that something confusing has happen with dates and communication. For example a car delivered 12/28/2007, could by accident now be thought of as 2/28/2007 with a warranty end date of 2/28/2010.
A GM dealership, or some site members, can run a GM VIS inquiry to determine the correct information, if you need it.
