Found a car with LESS trunk space then the Kappa

A Toyota MRS [or thirdgen MR2]

eBay Motors: Toyota : MR2 (item 180247658685 end time Jun-04-08 09:29:40 PDT)

Makes the Kappa look practicle.

Practical?

I hear that all of the time from my wife, "it isn't practical". Even though I argued that marrying her wasn't practical either, but it hasn't worked out badly; she wasn't convinced.

Last gen MR2 was a car I looked at before the Solstice. Whopping total 1.5 cu-ft of storage space...

Many folks don't know that the reason the Kappa trunk is so diminutive is rather a chain of events, all leading back to the very thing that makes these cars so awesome, their chassis:

The fuel tank could not be mounted low in the car due to the robust chassis structure underneath the trunk region. As such, the tank had to be mounted high, protruding into the 'trunk', while also making room for the folding top. A concession, to be sure, but one for the very best reason...PERFORMANCE!

GOOD EXPLANATION! Let's embrace our small trunks proudly. They represent putting the better things forward. After all, we still have bigger trunks than a Formula One car! (More cupholders too, I'll bet).

Yup very good explanation. The other main reason however is the counter point, and it's form instead of function driven. Those damn buttresses... The engineers wanted to drop them for function but the designers got their way and form one out since they wanted as close as possible copy of the original concept car. The buttresses created the need for the Mayan temple design instead of one large flat tank which then te up even more usable space.

In my opinion style trumps trunk space as well. I love the butresses... when I have the top up.... when its parked....in my garage.
