I'd be very interested in buying one if the price is reasonable. If their 40 mile range without a need for gas engine intervention holds true, then I would very rarely ever be driving it with the gas engine running. However, price would be a big factor in deciding whether I felt it was truly worth it or not too.

Actually, neither...that looks like a fuel cell version to me.

Have you guys seen the articles from early in January (or was it late December) where Lutz says the Volt will not look anything like the show car?

What???? Game over!!! I want it just like the concept! In that case I'm going with the new Camaro...so much for going green....
It's going to be a Jazz and Bumble Bee duo for me. I really liked the concept Volt...if this is true they are making a huge mistake.

I googled and found this: GM's Lutz: Volt Prototype in 2007, Production by 2010 | Autopia from Wired.com

I imagine it will look similar, but the concept crapped out when put in the wind tunnel. The rear window and short rear deck hurt the drag coefficient bad.

I'm hoping the new lithium Ion silicon nano-breakthrough won't take 10 years to realize. Could make a huge difference in cars like this.

Your right about the wind tunnel, Lutz joked it would probably do better running backwards.

They say cost may be as little as 30K.

I found this regarding same:

I'm still more interested in the Tesla Roadster. The range is much better and all electric. I need that 200 mile range a day, and if the Volt would do that... I'm all game.

BTW, if anyone feels the need to donate towards my "buy me a Tesla Roadster" fund. Let me know.. I accept PayPal.

I personally think the Tesla is all hype. I doubt it will see the light of day. As far as I'm concerned, it's vaporware.

About the Volt, unless it can do a 1/4 mile in the 13 second range, there won't be one in my driveway. With hybrids and diesels coming to the masses, looks like my next car will be a BMW or Porsche as they'll be the only one's able to build a proper sports car. It sucks that we have to give that market back to them. I was starting to enjoy the competition.
