Why ADD when you already have a vehicle that provides the gas mileage?

41 is impressive. But at what cost for size and going up against 18 wheelers?

After 3 back to back years of losses, GM jhas to do something. Today, at the annual shareholders meeting it begins. 4 truck plants shutting down, Hummer possibly on te hblock or shuttered, shift to higher % cars vs trucks. 35 mpg CAFE regs are staring them in the face. And what else would you expect for a $10,000 car (10,895 msrp) Every Aveo manual returns 34 mpg highway, even the G3 with an automatic is rated that (already on EPA site, so yes it is coming, no turning back now)

Reminds me of the brand new 1986 Red Pontiac T-1000 my brother bought - can you say lemon!!!! I understand with the gas prices that GM, and Ford are going to have to cut back on SUV, and truck production, but slow down and put some GOOD LOOKING cars out. T-1000 was a clone of the Chevy Chevette. With a bulletproof Isuzu diesel these puppies were capable of close to 50 mpg. EPA rated in today's numbers at 41 highway, same as smartcar. Much better than Vega/Astre it replaced and of course teh forgettable Korean built LeMans which followed. $500 front brake jobs on compact car in 1990's just didn't fly.

In Canada, the Pontiac version of the Chevette was called the "Acadian". Ya, my mom had one for 7 years...

This is not good.

2009 Pontiac G3

2009 Pontiac G3 hatchback

Looks like the Feds have tested two Pontiac G3 models. A G3 and a G3 hatchback.

Here's the kicker, the G3 only gets 28 MPG combined (25/34). Bigtime Whiskey Tango Foxtrot on this one.

They could get better MPG with a 2.0L non-turbo Solstice. It would still be a heck of a lot more fun to drive and wouldn't destroy the brand. In coupe form, it would be like the CRX for a new generation.

The car maybe ugly, but, at that price point it will bring in ALOT of people who would other wise buy a Hyundia or Kia or some other low cost imported auto. Once you have a customer, and a product that works well, that customer will return and hopefully upgrade to higher end auto. Should you Pontiac fanatics be pi$$ed at Pontiac for putting out a car like this, nope. With the way the american economy and price of oil is, GM had to make a sub-compact-none-hybird-none-Bio-fuel-none-electric 4 banger ****e box.

There is nothing wrong with a full slate of offerings. It reassures us that Pontiac is not going away as a brand. So life with it.

The only problem I see is that over the past 20 years going from Chevette/T-1000 to Aveo/G3 there has been little increase in mpg. The 1987 1.6L 5M 1000 was rated (in today's format)at 32 and the G3 is 34. The '87 Turbo Firefly (Suzuki Swift, Geo Metro, yeah I had to look it up) was rated 39! so we're headed backwards, if anything.

Gotta agree that this seems dumb, unless Pontiac is supposed to stand for "another brand of GM car with a different dashboard and logo"

I kinda like G5s, but this is going too far.

That is the car that every teenager should get as their first vehicle.

You would never have to worry about them getting in trouble because they wouldn't want to ever leave the house if they had to drive that.
