Saab Kappa Variant with 2.8 v6 turbo? (repost, bad rumor)

It looks like Saab will be releasing a version of a roadster with potentially a 2.8 v6 turbo. That would be some great low end torque and better fit and finish on the interior.

it is unclear whether is will be a Kappa. As far as I know, it is unconfirmed as to what platform it will be.

From what was said if you check brentil's and Solsticeman's post. This is a bad rumor. They will not be using the kappa platform.

Here are the post.

Quote:
...In November 2005, Jay Spenchian was the subject of an article at Edmunds. The article stated the following....

Jay Spenchian has revealed to Edmunds that a Saab variant from the Kappa platform that underpins the Pontiac Solstice, a possibility that had been received with great enthusiasm, is no longer part of the future plan for Saab.
Note: not on Kappa. Not necessarily dead all together, just not on Kappa.

...UPDATE: For those of you who don't read comments....

This from commenter John Patrick, whom I don't know, but whose contribution is certainly quite interesting and tends to confirm that the aforementioned magazines are indulging in some sensationalism and guesswork:

As someone in the biz..and work with someone who was very close to the deciders..i can say without hesitation that there is NO Sonnett or convert in the pipeline at all especially after the Kappa was cancelled..your timeline is fairly close on the 9-4. but 9-5 will be calendar year 08. The 08 9-3 will have the Aero X inspired front end and tailight design with full width design almost exactly like concept, plus the C pillar will have a "floating buttress" design as well. Plus coming sooner is the AWD version of the Combi 9-3. Then 9-4X - then new 9-5 and if everything goes as planned a redone 9-3. The earliest the 9-2 replacement would be 2010 and even that is questionable. But sadly no Sonnett in the plans or works..of course there have been rumors.but sadly thats all it is. The Kappa platform was cancelled because the dimensions and the structure would not be capable to accept all of the engineering changes Saab wanted. If they had proceeded the car would have had a 9 gallon fuel tank and that is only one of many shortcomings of the platform. I just wanted to not get peoples hopes up too high when a Sonnett does not appear anytime soon.

And NO, the "insider" quoted on trollhattansaab.net is NOT me (before anyone asks).

I think a lot of times these rumors kick up from people inside corporations talking about possible project ideas and such. Employees, their family, their friends, etc might kick these rumors back up from time to time talking about it or wishing it would/could have happened type of thing. We're not saying these were never talked about ideas by the companies, but their execution is extremely unlikely.

The mags feed off of these little bits of 'insider' information, and we all know how the truth gets mangled along the way. Two engineers at SAAB saying "You know that new Roadster Bob Lutz had developed, it would be awesome to be able to make our own version it it here huh?" gets feed through 10+ people and lands on the desk of magazine XXX writer's desk as "Two engineers at SAAB said Bob Lutz gave the ok to make a Kappa variant."

The magazine gets their artists to work and come up with a 'concept' image, and viola, we have these Kappa variants galore.
