Well, talking about having something in common with our brothers in this forum... THIS is certainly it... (Then again I was expecting this to happen all along)
I'm so disappointed with GM, I doubt I will EVER buy another GM product... sad day indeed..

They ruined the brand when they started to combine platforms and stopped making it in independent. I'm upset because now I have to make sure my neighborhood mechanic will know how to lift the car.

What a shame. Penske tried and it's not his fault.
Quote:
On Wednesday, Penske said its deal with the company it planned to buy future vehicles from was rejected by that company’s board. “Without that agreement, the company has determined that the risks and uncertainties related to the availability of future products prohibit the company from moving forward with this transaction,” Penske said in a statement.
Maybe now some of those other bidders will step back up to the plate.
Quote:
Penske, which owns a chain of dealerships and already distributes Daimler’s Smart car brand in the United States, had been in exclusive talks with G.M. for Saturn since June, beating out proposals from several other bidders, including a private-equity firm tied to a Saturn dealer in Oklahoma.

Never the less I am concerned since I own 4 vehicles from GM 3 that have been discontinued. The Saturn Sky is one, I bought my daughter a Pontiac G6 GT (Great HT vertible with V6 power BTW), and I also have a H***** since the first year.. Then the only survivor is my oldest daughters GMC Sierra which has been a great pickup so far.. So all my family drive GM's, but yet they abandon us? Please, give me one reason on why I should buy another GM product...
NOT...

Folks, I have had an Oldsmobile Silhouette new since 2001, have never had a problem with parts or service.
Also Toyota just announced a recall for 3.8 million of theirs cars.
The Kappa's are and will always be a beautiful automobile, enjoy them.

Too laye as GM has said it is no loinger interested in selling the brand. Wonder if Penske even really looked for other car builders (many in India and CHina from which to choose) as a supply source or if it was all a back room smoke screen to get DC off GM's back and give them some breathing room.

For floor mats! Duh! Now every car ever made that does not have a fastening system for mats will be suspect. Recalls to cover STUPIDdrivers are just plain STUPID in my book. You know how Toyota is going to fix this? Remove the mat and toss it in a landfill. No replacement, just remove. (just guessing what would be cheapest fix) Maybe they'll even get a law passed against drivers' side floor mats. I have GM floor mats, they move, sometimes they even keep teh accel;erator from reaching full throttle -at which time I reach down and reposition it. Driver's Ed 101: make sure all controls are properly positioned before shifting.

You actually expect people in this country to be responsible for themselves and the equipment they use daily?
Get real dude - its all toyota's fault.
<no matter how much of a pig, idiot, moron, buffoon is driving the car with the pitiful drivers education in this country. I don't say training since what we have in this country is not training - other countries actually teach car control and most importantly respect of the machine you are in control of - now that is uesful.>

Reason: had to make my intent clear.
I had a Avalon rental beast for 2 weeks, I tried to remove the mats, messed with it for about 2 minutes and they would not come loose from the hooks. Have to say they are the most secure setup I've seen. Better setup than in my Corvette that only has two little post sticking up.
Saturn is no longer OK, so we can't buy Opals again, it happened in the past when Buick stopped selling them here in the US back in the 70's. The world did not stop turning.
Plus most likely Saturn dealerships would have ended up selling Chery's.

We will not be able to purchase Opel's in the USA. Period! The deal states that they have to wait 5 years before they can sell Opel's in china and 2 years in Canada. Magna is a Canadian company, and one that my husband works for.
The Saturn/Penske deal fell through because of their board of directors, not GM. GM was getting ready to announce the conclusion of the purchase, when at the last moment (literally), Penske came and said the deal was over.
Did they not have their ducks in a row?
Now, I have no problem buying a GM car. As long as it is not a Government Motors car.
It is better than buying Toyota, BMW, or a Chery.
