My sis is going for a Tiburon. This is her choice so I have no say in her decision. I have been trying to get her to like the Pontiac G6 Coupe but it was on the top end of her price range and also it looks like a rental car.
I have heard of the bad reviews on Consumer Reviews about the old chassis and drivetrain the Tiburon uses. On the other hand, are there any ex-Tibby owners on this forum. What is the general reliability of this car?
I think the more recent ones hold up pretty well. There is talk for the next tib is going to be much more upscale and more expensive with a v8 offering to compete with companies like infintiy and others.

I almost bought a Tiburon back before I was looking at the Solstices. Local yearly close out sales they were selling them for $9k off so I could ge the V6 GT for about $14k which was a steal. The V6 engine is pretty lacking in my opinion but there are a bunch of after market kits, that for buying a new car for $14k I could easily justify modding it. I got to the lot and they had just sold the last V6 manual 30 minutes before we got there.

First rear window would not seal....it leaked even after 5 trips to the dealer in Austin Tx..next front end alignment would not stay true.......trans (auto) sliped......Dash and door parts came off in your hand...and pealed off....used the lemon law to have them take it back...what a mess.....never again....seal9
I traded a 2004 Tiburon GT in for my 2006 sol.
I loved my Tiburon, I bought it new for under 20,000, 100,000 mil warrenty, I put 40,000 mi on it WITH NO PROBLEMS. Its pretty quick as well.
Do'nt get me wrong, I love my sol even more, and thats will many problems.
I do not think she will go wrong with the Tiburon......

I know this is a little late, but my second car was a 99 Tiburon FX. I put 160k miles on that car with 0 problems. Took it cross country once as well. That car was so well made, everything went together with screws and the materials were top notch for a car in its price range. I've seen the new ones and love the design changes they've made. The exhaust actually sounds amazing for the GT. I wish they had more options between the models though as some options don't cross between the different versions they offer.
BTW, I was convinced that Hyundai made crap cars before I got my first one. They let me take it home for a day and I was sold. Thankfully the car never let me down as well. They've been making great strides forward since they ditched Mitsubishi as their engine producer back in 96. I definitely wouldn't hesitate getting another one and would much rather have that over a bland G6. The G6 just screams rental fleet car.
