Thinking about a new car....

I am 19 and just got a 98 Firebird (not the LS1) I am in college and already I am thinking about getting a new car.

I have a short list:
Pontiac GTO (should they redesign)
Camaro (concept)
Challenger (concept)
or of course a Solstice GXP

Of course all of this is just speculation untill I have the CASH.

(I am not the best speller)

The goat is dead after the next couple years. The Camaro should be cool if it's close to the concept. Take the concept add 18" wheels, raise it about 2 inches, cut three inches off the width, and imagine a stock interior then you'll have your 2008 Camaro.

The GXP will be a lot of fun and it shouldn't be too hard to tune it for an easy 300HP. The GXP might betough as your only vehicle though. Keep the firebird for when you need to haul some stuff or when theweather turns bad.

I would also consider a used CTSV, or maybe the Dodge Challenger.

I would prefer a V8 but a lot depends on money. My firebird I love I don't think I could go back to a FWD car. I live in Ohio, it has been a mild winter thus far, but I have so much fun driving it. I personally hope that the GTO stays but who knows. I would kill to see the Firebird rise from the Ashes but that is just wishful thinking. Thanks for the input!

This will be the last year for this "version" of the GTO. But that does not mean that a excellent used one will not be available when you are ready. I would personally vote for the GTO if you are considering all factors(including resale, insurance cost, fuel economy, etc.) The GTO shines or is in the top of the pack in most categories.

Plus they are extremely rare.

At 20 years old, the insurance on a new V8 pony car will easily outpace the monthly payments. Some companies won't even insure anyone less than 25 on a Mustang GT/Camaro Z28 in certain places.

No kidding, until you turn 25 it is pretty outrageous even on a Solstice. Ridiculous to me since I'm 24 and have never put in a claim for anything ever. I'm only going to paying for 3 months on my Solstice before the insurance will cut practically in half. I wonder what I'll be like when I'm 25. Apparently I'll be a whole lot smarter and safer than I am now......
